Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 14th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning All
What am I doing up at this silly o'clock after a latish night? The answer wearing heeled shoes:o I bought this for the BBQ last night, but it needed heeled shoes to wear with it (rarely wear heels) and managed to walk in them OK, but have suffered all night with cramp in my calves and ankles :mad: The price of Pride!!:D Last night went very well, plenty of meat left over so that will be going into the freezer today. Bought it all from a local butcher, and he made the Burgers fresh yesterday so they could be froze OK, and didn't collect it until 3pm so it was kept good in their cool room, enough booze for another party I think also. One thing that went in record time was a HM Victoria Sponge, filled with Jam and Cream, and Strawberries. An old friend and DS's Godmum came down on her own from Boroughbridge, as her DH had just had an Hernia operation, it was really lovely to see her, and also gave her chance to catch up with DS & meet his GF. Not only did it stay dry, it was mild and we all sat outside some until Midnight, with just a cardigan on.:beer::j:j:beer::beer: I don't know if they are trying to tell me something but rather a lot of bottle bags arrived with flowers and other things last night. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Nothing will be opened until Monday :A
Today I am being taken out for lunch by DH, DS && GF.
Tomorrow I am planning on going here with DH, DS & GF, 2 of our neices and there 2 kids each (10 of us) My treat. Daft I know but it is what I want to do, and we are in a better place to do it than the younger ones IYKWIM, and I will only be 60 once. Still a little OS though, as I have asked each neice to pack a picnic for them and their LO's and we will take one with us too
:D
Think I may have LO Fresh Fruit Salad for brekky. Certainly tea (if we want any) will be LO specials.
Take care all. Have a lovely Sunday. DG

Morning DG (love the jump suit) and all who follow,
Up bright and early this morning, the sun is shining and I think I will spend some time sorting out the garden. It does feel quite autumnal out there.
DS returns from his camping trip today no doubt bringing home another mountain of washing and DD1 returns tomorrow. It will be nice to have them all back again, it has been so quiet with only one child at home.
Tea tonight is roast chicken (DS's favourite).
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all,
Hope all is well this morning, not caught up with the thread. Dad's party went really well, think my cake was the only OS there was as my sister ordered all the food from Waitrose. Anyhow it went down very well. Was lovely to see all my nephews and neices and my family from America.
Plan today to not eat anything! Have been a real pig and I need to stop as the weight is going on again. Off to the gym in a mo. Then will continue out in the garden. DS is going to the Toby Carvery with his Dad for tea.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ELONA AND DONNY-GAL
DANDY hugs
JACKIEO have a safe journey.
Hugs to anyone I've missed who needs one.

Morning all
WM is on, garden is watered, slug patrol done, fish fed, neighbours cat fed, bathroom cleaned. I shall cook hubby's breakfast soon.
Not sure whether lunch today will be chicken or lamb, either way it will be with HG roasties & HG cabbage & beans, hubby dug 16lbs of potatoes yesterday from just 2 plants.
I need to sit down today & work out next months money, I need to start building up the savings again.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Donnygal, sounds like a brill day ahead,, did you get a group discount for 10 people? Lovely jumpsuit, nice to see you're looking mega glam at 60
Hester congrats to hubby on all those spuds very impressive.
Morning anyone who's up (at this time on a sunday?!). I'm thoroughly nackered, I was exhausted yesterday but still didn't get to sleep til 1 and was woken up by OH at 4 and 7am. Bit annoyed that the hospital obviously didn't tell him the side effects of anaesthetic wearing off as he was really panicking at 4, he was freezing and shivering but the nurse gave him painkillers instead of another blanket and said nothing. Hopefully he can go home today. I'm now looking into learning to drive as it would actually be incredibly useful at times like this!
OS for the day is that I desperately want to cook a good meal! Hmm and burying the break in the stem of my pumpkin plant has worked, it's growing fast again and has gained some little tendrils overnight. I really want a home grown pumpkin for halloweenLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

Morning:D
Not getting on here much at the mo due to school hols and DS needing loads of time....ie every minute of my day;) I am so tired that I feel sick.
I feel totally exhausted at the mo as am getting no rest at all......still up at 4am everyday or earlier and on the go all day with him...he never stops talking "at me" and flapping and making noises....everyday must be mapped out down to the last minute and he is even more controlling than normal in a desperate attempt to cope with all the changes:o
We have no relatives near so have not even had a 5 min break at all since school finished 4 weeks ago and it is tiring.
He is going away for 5 days with his dad on Tues eve and although I need the rest I hate him being away as I miss him and he doesnt like being away...I worry about how he will cope
Anyway the bright side is my chickens will be here today:jput the coop up yesterday and going to pick the 3 girls up at lunchtime...cant wait and DS is beside himself with excitement...he loves animals and birds and spends ages at the farm on hols with the chickens.
Arroz con pollo for tea later.....will see if DS will try some and that may be another tea to add to his list:cool:
DG glad you had a good time, love the jumpsuit!
Adelight glad OH is coming home today. RE the nurse, maybe he had spiked a temp overnight and that was why he was shivering etc, this would explain why he didnt get another blanket and maybe the painkiller was paracetamol used also as an antipyretic (ie bring temp down). Just wondering. Anaesthetic wearing off can make people feel cold and shivery but I would have hoped that if that was the case the nurse would have explained that and wrapped him up a bit.0 -

Morning All
Hope JackieO has packed and is all ready to go, have a good time.
Not been on for the past few days as we are looking after friends puppy and it loves the laptop, ie, loves putting its paws all over it. It even managed to delete my e-mails! He is cute though and I am enjoying walking him. I will probably even miss him when he goes home tonight.
Os wise it has been quite a good week as I have stuck to the meal plan I made, DD was good too, she even cooked one night. Roast chicken dinner for tonight so chicken based meals all week then! Struggling with the washing though as it has been raining for what seems like forever. Just one nice day would be good to catch up with all the drying.
Got the curtains I bought from *bay and at first I didn't like them but they are growing on me. The description said charcoal but they are more a blue/grey. Once I have changed the cushions to something that matches it shouldn't be so bad. They were too expensive not to use them and slightly too long but I have turned them up myself.
Hugs to Adelight - hope OH is ok
DG - Love the jumpsuit and glad you had a good time.
Sure I have forgotten something else so sorry and have a hug! Take care and enjoy your Sundays. XX0 -
Hi all,
Just a quick one for me today. I will be chilling out today as it will be the last time ths week:rotfl:
DD gets married next Saturday! Can't believe it's come round so fast. Everything done now, just photographer to be paid.
DS is coming home Tuesday with his fiancee (never met her yet!) Haven't seen him since Christmas, so that will be lovely.
Fell over last Sunday, and have two poorly knees now:mad: Grazes and bruises on them. May have to resort to make-up if they haven't healed by Saturday!
DG is still not walking (17 months now) Mum reckons she will do it next Sunday just to be awkward!:rotfl: She looks like a little doll now. Her hair has grown a lot recently, and it is curly like her dad, which is gorgeous! (not that I am biased or anything!)
Anyway, hooe everyone has a fab day/week, will report back after next Saturday.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Hi everyone
Just found this thread while I was searching for something else...what a lovely idea! I'm fairly new around here, and don't get a lot of time to browse.
I've got the day to myself today....strange to say that as I live on my own anyway, but what with work and visiting friends I am rarely home it seems. Usually on a Sunday my brother will come over and I do dinner for us both, but he's not coming today as he hasn't got enough petrol till his money comes through tomorrow.:(
So I shall potter around a bit, I've been working my way through cleaning out the kitchen cabinets...oh joy! As I don't have to worry about cooking something for my brother that he likes, I'm making a watermelon and feta salad...been meaning to try this for ages, it sound very refreshing!
Enjoy your day everyone
