I had this problem and kept solution supplied by Microsoft in case it might be useful to others(have posted before)

    Repair the .NET Framework
To repair the .NET Framework, you must uninstall multiple versions of the .NET Framework by using the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool, and then reinstall the components.

To do this, follow these steps:
Click the following link to download the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/arc...8/8904493.aspx
Use the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool to uninstall the .NET Framework versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5
Note The cleanup tool does not let you remove the .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows Vista or later versions because the .NET Framework is installed as an operating system component.
    Restart the computer.
Download and install the following components:
    .Net Framework 1.1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...7-034d1e7cf3a3
    .Net Framework 1.1 SP1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
    .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Note This will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and .Net Framework 3.0 SP2
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
    Restart the computer.
Visit the Windows Update Web site and install the updates:

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow (with the space) then press enter, this should replace missing system files

Click start then run, type chkdsk /r (with the space) then press enter, type Y so it runs at next boot, confirm and reboot. This scan can take ages so do not run it when you need the PC
  • hi took ages but a lot to repair thanks to all especially dogmaryxx.... all updates done even the grapics card update from 2008!! worked took from 10 pm till now thanks again well pleased

For the 32 bit version download this NDP40-KB2533523-x86.exe here

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=27014

Save the file, then run it to install it, if it is already installed it should say so pretty quickly.

You could click start, control panel, programmes and features, click view installed updates on the left to see if they are listed, if not, download and install them manually

If they are installed, you could uninstall them, download and install them manually, run windows update

If none of the above helps

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100

If that does not help, you could start a new thread in this forum as the solution(s) may be different to those for the original enquiry

Many thanks Santer, I now seen to be 'cooking with gas' still missing one update but I guess that will arrive at some point.
