I bought a mobile phone from mobiles.co.uk. That add on insurance and geek squad automatically however they can be cancelled within the usual cooling off period. Being a good moneysaver I cancelled both within the first week which I received confirmation of. One month later a Direct Debit came out of my account from TMTI Ltd for £20.97. I've never heard of TMTI Ltd, it was only by searching moneysavingexpert that I realised it was geek squad. I sent them an email via enquires@tmti.net. I have another response stating it has been cancelled the following day. To be safe I have cancelled the direct debit with my bank and asked them to investigate why this money was taken. I'll wait and see what happens, however this blatant robbery makes me mad.

But did you cancel the DD? If you did, the bank is at fault.

How can it be the bank's fault?
If the DD is cancelled, the money cannot be taken.
If the company reinstates the DD, it's beyond the bank's control.

I don't think the company could reinstate it once the customer has cancelled it with their bank. They would need a brand new permission from the customer to do that or set up a new one.

OK, let's call it 'set up again', not 'reinstate'. Of course they shouldn't do this, but they can.

Only the account holder can set up a DD. If it's done without their OK, the bank is responsible.

No, the account holder gives a permission to a company to set up a DD. Nowadays, when everything is done electronically, bank is unable to check if the permission was given.

Clarkson stung after bank prank - was it the bank's fault? The entire system of DD is flawed.
