I have just logged on to my online banking and noticed a Direct Debit taken from my account for the sum of £18.30 from a company named TMTI LTD. I had no idea who the company was or why they were taking money from my account. I did a google search and found out who they are.
Recently i tokk out a mobile phone contract via Dial a Fone. Apparently somewhere in the small print there is a notice stating TMTI will be taken twice a year from your bank via DD.
I called up TMTI LTD who go by the name of GADGET HELPLINE. Spoke to a advisor and gave her my reference number as stated on my Direct Debit. She has now cancelled the DD and will refund the sum of £18.30 back to my account.
Anyone else had money taken from TMTI (Gadget Helpline)?
Richie.

Better check you haven't also paid for insurance because they sign you up for that too at the same time as TMTI.0 -
Hi I bought a mobile phone from a company on the internet, agreed the price with them, no paperwork but phone never materialised. 1 month later direct debit from my account to TMTI Ltd for £20.94. I have not signed anything to say that I agreed to pay them anything nor was I warned of this. I contacted my bank and asked to speak tot the fraud dept. Eventually they agreed to look into it as a case of fraud and refund my account.
If you have DD taken out where you have not agreed to it either in writing or verbally over the phone (and even if you did you should have paperwork/email with it on), you should contact your bank fraud dept.
Taking money out of your account without your authorisation is fraud.0 -
It's not fraud. It's utter carelessness on YOUR part. TMTI is generally added at the point of sale and in clear view BEFORE you confirm the order. If you bothered to print out what you agreed to you would have it in writing; if you didn't you still agreed to it.0

Normally I would agree, but the poster states the phone didn't materialise. Therefore they have taken the money when no phone contract was formed...that's totally different to getting the phone through and then being charged...0 -

True; I missed that part. However, TMTI is actually a separate contract with another organisation and not dpeendent on delivery of the phone - since you can ask them for advice on any "gadget" once signed up. It is always made claer at the point of sale but since the phone didn't arrive it's easy to see why it was missed by both the company and the customer. There is a regular line of posters on here who sign up to TMTI (and the insurance) who don't take sufficient care when ordering on-line. On-line ordering does have several advantages over the alternatives - as long as you take care to the detail at the point of sale.0 -
Its dependent on the contract - it sounds as it the poster may have failed the credit check or contract some other way, which should have avoided any of these additional 'bonus' deals that companies offer.0

I bought a mobile phone from mobiles.co.uk. That add on insurance and geek squad automatically however they can be cancelled within the usual cooling off period. Being a good moneysaver I cancelled both within the first week which I received confirmation of. One month later a Direct Debit came out of my account from TMTI Ltd for £20.97. I've never heard of TMTI Ltd, it was only by searching moneysavingexpert that I realised it was geek squad. I sent them an email via enquires@tmti.net. I have another response stating it has been cancelled the following day. To be safe I have cancelled the direct debit with my bank and asked them to investigate why this money was taken. I'll wait and see what happens, however this blatant robbery makes me mad.0

Their aim is to confuse. Confuses the hell out of me sometimes, but I think you'll find the so-called Geek Squad IS the insurcance and the TMTI (aka the Gadget Helpline) are entirely different. Maybe you cancelled the insurance twice thinking you'd cancelled the TMTI when you hadn't. Their confusing change of names in different parts of the process is a deliberate attempt to muddy the waters - one of CPW's favourite traits.0
