PAYG for 83 year old - please help
My father-in-law would now like his first mobile phone at the age of 83! I saw the Virgin deal from Phones4U on here but that is now out of stock. I like the look of the Nokia 1110 and that deal was £20 for the phone (£5 Quidco) plus £30 call time over 3 months if you bought £5 airtime.
Problem is his birthday is this Wednesday so don't think I can get it online.
Never been into a phone mobile phone store as I have a work phone so don't want to be talked into something really elaborate he does not need.
We do have an old handset but not sure if it is locked also it would be nicer to get a shinny new phone.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi,
I recently bought a mobile phone for an elderley relative and i chose the Nokia 1100.
I liked the automatic locking facility, it meant that the phone keypad was locked so she couldn't make any phone calls she didn't mean to. It also has a light on the top and she uses that to see the key hole for the front door!
Most importantly, its basic enough that she doen't find it too confusing to use and it was very cheap!
Hope this helps.0 -

Staples had the Nokia 1112 for £20 with £5 credit on Virgin - a week or two ago.
If you can get a cheap Nokia at Tesco, Tesco mobile can be changed to the " Value tariff", which is 15p per minute and 5p per text. Plus it will display the balance after each call & text, which would be useful for someone with their first mobile. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The Vodafone Simply is designed specially for people who are not very technologically-compatible.
It has big easy buttons, and no features beyond basic calling and texting.
Probably will be more expensive than a 1100 or whatever though...0 -
recommend the nokia 1100
easy grip
biggish buttons
as mentioned torch feature

"The [Voadfone Simply] mobile phones are completely Free if you connect to any of our pay monthly price plans or from just £44.99 for pay as you talk."

It looks like Vodafone Simply is just a selection of basic phones, rather than a single specially designed phone.
If you click the link above, and choose the Sagem VS4, it's only £30 online (despite the £44.99 mentioned).0 -

I would try to stick to a Basic Nokia.
I don't think those simply phones got good reviews, though the idea/concept is certainly a good one.
If you can get a 1100 or 1101, like Charley and Sara said they would be best.
But i think they have been replaced by the 1110 and 1112
