Aviva Stealing No claims discount years

...and b) reduce your NCD to a figure less than 5 years if you should have a claim.
Your NCD would drop below 5 years anyway, whether you have 6 years, 7 years or 15 years NCD prior to the claim. It'd usually drop to 3 years after the claim (unless you'd protected your NCD of course).0 -
I moved from Aviva to Direct Line and had the same problem.
However, I phoned Aviva and they sent me a letter confirming I had 9 years no claims bonus. Direct Line accepted this and didn't query it.0 -
Same problem here with Aviva. Insured with them last year with 11 years NCD the renwal came through this year with '5 years or more' as the NCD. Now all insurance companies I have contacted will only give 6 years NCD max based on the Aviva renewal form. Fortunately I still have the previous one detailing 11 years from Shelia wheels and I have found a company which will accept that one, though not all will. Aviva are scamming you to a) reduce your NCD if you choose to move to another company and b) reduce your NCD to a figure less than 5 years if you should have a claim. Aviva make no mention of this on their web site or within any of their policy documents.
Needless to say Aviva are now on my list of companies never ever to use again.
There are four golden rules for No Claims Discounts:
1 Don't use Aviva because they reduce your No Claims to 5 years.
2 Always get a statement of your No Claims EACH YEAR, you've earned it and you have a right to it! (This should be a legal requirement.)
3 Send it to your new insurer and get them to confirm in writing.
4 Renew in good time though, just in case Rule 3 fails. You can then cancel before the policy starts and use an insurer that uses ACTUAL No Claims years.
Remember it is in the insurance companies interest to reduce No Claims Discounts.0 -
Don't use Aviva because they reduce your No Claims to 5 years.
Or use Aviva if you wish but make sure you keep your own record of NCD. Indeed, keeping your own record is common sense irrespective of provider.
You shouldnt just single out Aviva. A lot of providers have different levels.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I have started an e-petition to ask the Government to require insurance companies to issue and annual statement of ACTUAL no claims years. Please sign it if you agree with me that it would help solve the problems covered in this thread.

Buyer Beware of AVIVA CAR INSURANCE This practice should relly be dealt with by the insurance ombudsman as it is beyond sharp practice'Sorry if this has been posted before but im absolutely annoyed with aviva and just wanted to make people aware of this scam.
I took proof of 6 years no claims discount to them from previous insurers and have been with aviva for two years, again claim free.
I have just had my renewal notice and spotted it saying i had 5 years no claims discount and not the expected 8 years. Rang them up and they said the maximum they provide proof for is 5 years irrespective if you've been with them longer claim free, effectively stealing 3 years from me when or if i choose to move on.:mad:
No i have to go cap in hand begging other insurers who run up to 9 years no claims discount to believe me as proving will be hard as its past 2 years since my earlier figures. Entrapment springs to mind as they dont print or advertise this little fact clearly.
Rant over, buyers beware of the deals they offer.0 -
It is pretty simple stuff though and through my experience being insured with Aviva, if they can see a trail going for longer than 5 years then they will prove it. If they haven't seen proof when you joined but see proof after that (either by you sending it in or them calling the previous insurer) then they could still prove more than the 5 years.I work for a leading insurance company as an Insurance Advisor dealing with Commercial Insurance. Feel free to ask me any questions but please do not take what I say as correct advice at all times, as every insurance company works differently to others.0
