Old Style Daily Saturday 13th August 2011

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 13th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Well Good Morning x
I thought I would make a start on the new day as I didnt manage to get back to sleep - I wonder if the full moon has had any effect? I was contemplating going back to bed but said I would run Ds1 and DD to work at 5.30 and 6.30 respectively so dare not go back to sleep now.

Need to restart OS dramatically. I have spent too much, what with birthdays, holidays and unexpected expenses:eek::eek::eek:
Never mind I am feeling my motivation coming back and am very grateful that my mood has started to lift. I will be going back to meal planning and careful budgeting as we also need to start saving for a new car as our large one now has 170,000 on the clock and was struggling yesterday on the way home:eek::eek::eek:

It is going to be a traumatic week though as DD is waiting for her A'level results and is basically expecting to fail :( This is so sad and I am praying that she passes as she wants to go to university. We keep telling her that we know she worked as hard as she could and it does not matter (wretched dyslexia), but she has set herself this goal. We do have a plan B and she plans to go back to college and maybe look at an access course. Her anxiety rather overshadowed our holiday so we keep trying to chivvy her along. Then the week after we have Ds2 and Ds3 exam results:eek::eek::eek:

Ok well first lot of washing has finished. Hugs to you all xx

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Morning Molly & all who cross/follow
Hubby is working today, I'll cook him breakfast, drop him at work & then come back & start batch cooking chicken pies & cottage pies.
I also need to do a pile of washing & a little ironing to catch up from our honymoon.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning :hello:

I looked at my ironing and thought 'nah' :D I wash clothes on a very short spin then put them on hangers on the line to dry. Then they go onto a rail (chopped in half curtain pole) in what I call my utility room - which is really a small walk-in cupboard - while they wait to be ironed. Most of them are about as creased as they'd be if I'd been wearing them for an hour, so what's the point in ironing them? So they've all been put away. Another job I don't have to do :D Just on well, as I'm still in strike mode. Actually, I can't remember the last time I turned the iron on, lol.

I'll be sorting out the greenhouses this morning, this year the tomatoes are keen on growing lots of leaves but not many tomatoes.

I haven't cleaned out the guinea pigs for two days, they're a bit stinky so I'll get onto that in a minute.

I'm going to spend the rest of the day playing with my new craft toys :D

Mini rant alert  - miss tru finished work at 10pm last night (got home at 10.30), she had to be in at 6am this morning. I've told her she's supposed to have 11 hours between shifts, she told the boss who insisted it's only 7 hours. She went to bed with no tea, and didn't have time for breakfast this morning. She was half an hour late this morning, she slept through her alarm then needed a shower before she went in. She ate a banana on the way. God help any awkward customers today............

    Morning my lovelies :D

Well as you can guess I am not on my way to Legoland. H worked later than expected last night and is shattered, plus weather is better for Sunday so it's been put back a day. So this means I am going to shoe horn into my day going shopping, seeing my mum, housework and general tidying up. How exciting my life is lOL

Molly - sending positive vibes for your DD xxxx

Tru - any chance of getting official confirmation of hours between shifts and wafting it under Boss' nose?

Hugs and spoons all round. Have a great day OS or not.

    Morning all

Raining here at the mo but not too heavy, hopefully it will brighten up in a bit. Have been awake since 04.30 as my neighbours 24 year-old son woke me up with his mates. Told him in no uncertain terms what I thought over the garden fence . My neighbour is lovely but she's away at the mo and unfortunately her son is a waste of space as are most of his mates. None of them work or have any intention of doing so, they just sit around smoking dope.

BUTTERFLY hope your knee is ok
LOU I agree with Molly, only you can decide what to do, hugs hun.
BITSY have a safe journey and a good day at Legoland.

Had another productive day yesterday. Have painted both garden benches, done my ironing and baked 2 cakes for Dad's party today. Just need to ice them, will post pics when I can workout how to do it :D.

Have a good day all and big hugs to all who need one, off to make icing.

Today is sunny, if cold. :)
So I'm painting, with radiator enamel, a vintage paraffin heater I bought to see us through the winter in the unheated kitchen. Already tested it and it works great. :D
And taking daughter to the mobile opticians for an eyetest and new specs.
And washing down the paintwork on the kitchen walls.

    morning!

weekend off:j spending this morning on housework and also want to clean the inside of my car out - might even wash it! Feeling quite energetic this morning - thats what having a good nights sleep does for you:)
Have cleaned the tops of the kitchen cupboards, mopped floor, cleaned bathroom and second load of washing is on.

Need to fetch DS2 this afternoon from his GFs house. He rang me last night and said Mum I've got something to tell you:eek: I was thinking along the lines of OMG she's pregnant when he said I've finally learned how to tie my shoe-laces:j :DThis might sound strange to you all but he's 19 and has never managed to master the coordination required plus lack of patience from him while we were trying to teach him prevented him from learning how to do it. He was so embarrassed about it but he confided in his GF and she taught him.He was so pleased bless him:) - next step is his work apron - this is hard cos its obviously behind his back and he wont be able to see what he's doing.
He's developed lots of strategies to get round this in the past so I'm so pleased he's done it at last!:T

Food shopping later - have a £5 off Tesco voucher to use up.

Molly - I'm sure you're right about the working hours although my company also ignores the rules as we finish at ten and start at seven. I found the info on the direct.gov site when I looked.

Bitsy - hope you all have a lovely day out tomorrow! x

    take care all x

Morning everyone. I've been ill for the last couple of days - seems to be turning into a head cold now which isn't nice but at least the fever bit seems to have gone now. Still - I've sat wrapped in my duvet doing some knitting so it's not been all bad!

Taking the cat to the vet shortly for her annual jabs - she's not impressed that I'm keeping her in this morning but I know if I let her out now I won't see her till way past her appointment time!

It's grey, foggy and miserable here but at least it's not actually raining atthe moment (although we had torrential rain last night that was so heavy it woke me up!). OH is outside pressure washing (keeps him happy!).

Hope everyone else is hale and hearty and has a good day.

I'm about to print out THIS and highlight the bit that says:
Daily rest - a break between working days

If you are an adult worker you have the right to a break of at least 11 hours between working days. This means as an adult worker, if you finish work at 8.00 pm on Monday you should not start work until 7.00 am on Tuesday.

Hopefully that'll be enough. If not, she'll have to get something in writing (from CAB?).

It's a shame because she really loves the job. The boss is usually great too so I'm hoping he's just got his information wrong and will put things right when he realises.

    Hello to one and all
Read this post often but never contributed.
Damp and grey and miserable here........and that's just me :).
Had so much rain the last week the poor garden is awash and the cats are developing webbed feet. Been up since 5 as OH goes out to work at 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep. Have sorted the freezer, planned next weeks meals, done 2 lots washing and changed the bed. Cats not impressed when I had to shift them to take the bedding off. Keep peering balefully at me and tutting..............can cats tut? Anyway just wanted to say hello and wish everyone a good day .
