East Midlands Airport (travel from).

Hullo.

I'm trying to find a cheap way back home from Spain during August, (hell yeah I know that's an oxymoron).
It seems like the best deals are to East Midlands Airport. I've never used this airport before so haven't got a clue.

From initial research it seems like there is no Rail Station at the airport (god I miss Manchester :() and that the nearest stations that I'll be able to get an onward train homeward will be from Nottingham and Derby. So does anyone know if there is a decent bus service to and from these 2 rail stations and how long the journey should take.

Thanks as ever.

there is a bus called the skylink which goes from EMA to the city centre, I'm pretty sure it stops outside the train station but otherwise the terminis is on friar lane, about a 10 min walk away from the station so that's the best way to get there, takes less than an hour from EMA too.

If you use this airport when there is a race on at donnington or the download festival is on allow extra time as the traffic is horrendous

It is only about 20 to 30 minutes to any of the stations if that depending on the traffic of course. and no ther is no direct rail from the airport.

Wether you choose to travel on by train from Derby or Nottingham depends on where your destination is.

If it's the west side of the pennines then Derby is your obvious choice , east side then Nottingham, although there is a service from Nottingham to Manchester and Liverpool.

As someone said earlier the Nottingham Skylink stops outside Nottingham railway station. The Derby bus I suspect ( although I don't know for sure) that it stops at the bus station which is a bit of a walk from the railway station.

Check out the bus timetables online and then the train timetables to give you some idea of which will be the best route.

Edit I have just checked the website and Derby Skylink does stop at Derby railway station. So work out your rail route and take it from there.

The train station close by is called East Midlands Parkway-which you can get a short taxi to, get a bus to, or (I think it's mentioned on their site) request a shared taxi through them, I've done this a few times, where they pick a few of you, usually a car full of you up and charge a few pounds each! Very reliable I've found!

Matt They have stopped the bus service to the EM Parkway station.

So now there is a railway station in the middle of nowhere with no access by public transport, and as it is only on the Nottingham/London line it is not much use to anyone wanting to go to the north west.

I would heartily SECOND this - it has even been known to stop northbound and southbound traffic on the M1
