I had to share this with you - DS3 (aged 6) is in the middle of his own MSE budget beauty experiment. He has made a litre of 'perfume' with water and all the flowers he could find in the garden. Having distilled them he has now drowned my living room trying to pour his concoction from a gerkhin jar to a pesto jar. Mmmm! l'eau de cornichon anyone?!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

Gemjar, I'd never thought of looking on Youtube for hair and make up tips either - another great tip thus proving to my DH that time spent on this forum is definitely NOT time wasted, as he insists it is!:D0 -

Haha I've had many a bored Sunday to find out that people do tips on youtube but there are some absolute diamonds on there that have tought me so much! Have a look at nail marbling, took me a few tries but it never fails to amaze people when I do it!0 -
Just catching up with the thread. Amazed that everyone's talking about YouTube for beauty videos because I only discovered this last night. I was looking for info about the babyliss big hair tongs/styler and the urban decay naked palette because both are on my wishlist but a bit expensive. The videos I found on there are much more useful than any magazine or shop assistant.

I particularly use YouTube for 40's and 50's hairstyles - been working on me bangs and me victory rolls!
I'm trying to think if I have any beauty updates... ooh! I have! I knew there was a reason I logged on! I have just completely rearranged my room, cupboards and all. That isn't strictly beauty news but I now have a lovely boudoir in which to do lovely beauteous things. The plan is to paint and decorate it and I would dearly love new bed linen but that will have to wait until the pennies are pounds. So, I have pretty pin up girl fairy lights up, mirrors cleaned, jewellery organised, make up sorted and stashed, and fascinators arranged in gorgeous display. I've got an old chest of drawers that my friend gave me that are really tatty and old and are being used as a dressing table - I'm going to sand them back and paint them and then organise all my underwear and accessories so that it feels luxurious to use.
My lovely hair serum ran out which was a lucky find a year or so ago in Tesco - it was one of the little independent brands that they promote every so often and don't stock it anymore
My favourite serum is Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops which is waaaay too expensive for my budget at the moment. i have tried quite a few of the off the shelf brands and haven't really found anything I like. I've got a lot of kind of wavy hair that can be tamed with the right product and handling into lovely twisty curls but unfortunately it is often just fluffy and frizzy and sometimes greasy to boot. Joy! Anyway, in Asda earleir spotted a homebrand serum for 2 quid so I'm going to give that a go and let you know how I get on.
I have to say though there are times when actually higher end products are the better value for money. I once went around the house collecting up all the 4 quid body moisturisers that I'd bought that didn't really do the job and realised for the same price I could have bought the Clarins Tonic Oil that I really wanted, lasts for ages, smells beautiful and gets rid of my itchy dry skin. And to conclude that lesson I am wearing Chanel nail varnish which I have had on for 3 days, is marginally chipped and frayed at the end despite school holidays, cleaning, gardening, furniture shifting and washing up and was put on to cover up the yellow stains from the cheap green nail varnish which peeled off within hours of application!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

Ooh Magsm i was bought the Urban Decay metallic palette which I have worn and worn and worn! I used up all of sin (my absolute favourite) and find it is really good for smudgy kind of smokey eyes (a look I'm not great at). The white in that palette is also really nice with a thick lick of black catty eyeliner (again totally sold on the lancome one which was given to me by my brothers girlfriend who worked for them and thought I would find it easier than the cheap one I was using - she was right! Unfortunately she is now married to someone else so no more freebies
)
I think I'm rambling now! I did also today, clean out a beautiful vintage crystal cut jar, filled it with cotton balls and bought an extra bottle of eye make up remover and popped them on the dressing table. The hope is that when I'm too lazy to take my make up off in the bathroom before bed (every night!) the extra reminder looking at me from the dressing table will guilt trip me into it. Or at least for a couple of days whilst its still a novelty

I think that with some things Ruby,for example shampoo, bought morrisons own, then bought Herbal essences both utterly dreadful hair was a mess. washed it was Patene this morning, all nice and silky again!
In challenge news, I did my wardrobe today, and shoes. I need more interesting tops. but need to lose weight first. Tomorrow I am reinstating the Chest of drawers (long story involving a guinea pig cage a fish tank and some gerbils) and will have another harsh look at the tops........all the same basic t shirt.
more decluttering tomorrow.

Oh, I have got a question... sorted out all my earrings and have so many lovely ones that I have collected but all of them make my ears really sore and weepy. This has always been the case - I don't tolerate metals other than silver very well but the kind of jewellery I like to wear tends to be cheap (even if the jewellery isn't!). Painting it with the non-allergy stuff doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm getting ready to give up on earrings altogether. Any ideas about alternatives? Or what to do with all my lovely earrings?!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

Yay! Go Buffy! My aunt always said that you should feel fabulous before you start trying to lose weight and you should invest in yourself as you are. The theory being that it breaks the cycle of self loathing that tends to lead to over-eating in the first place. Alternatively, a corsage works wonders for a boring old top! I don't have any tops at all, literally none. I wear vests and cardigans if i'm wearing skirts and I don't have any trousers! But I have got in the habit of wearing a corsage or brooch and I love wearing funky necklaces. I'd like to wear scarves to but I just can't get it right! I don't think I have the neck for it!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

Oh and I have a nightmare with shampoo. I have really sore, dry skin and my scalp is the worst - really itchy and flaky (and sorry, but scabby to). I'm always looking for new shampoos. Pricey ranges are always better but can't tolerate any of the supermarket or high street brands - not even head & shoulders. Lush is quite good. Getting on quite well at the moment with the L'oreal anti-dandruff one - haven't had any itching for a week
