Peonie- thanks for tidying the list up.
I'm not sure of the best way forward- although I'm looking forward to seeing some updates from other long haulers to inspire me (and hopefully knock us off the no. 1 slot ;))

I've now sold one of my properties so my mortgage has gone way down - is that cheating?? :rotfl:

Still in the £100k club though unfortunately..

Not sure the best way of doing a list but my mortgage is now "only" £161,106 so i've gone down the list a bit...

    :D
    Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.

  • Hi,

Just read through this thread and its a pity it wasn't around a few years back when we would also have been included!

When we took out our original figure we knew that we had about £80K to reduce it by as we still had a house sale going through. Initially we had expected that the remaining £160K would just be there for 25 years.

Finding this site led us to look at the actual cost and convinced us both that we had been very sensible to not opt to "enjoy" part of that £80K on an extra holiday or new car ( which would have been very easy to justify).

Our advice to you would be to make sure you plan in some big and little treats for your milestones on the journey as it helps to give you momentum. During the last 3 years motivation levels dropped for us at a number of points and we also had to move the goal posts on a couple of occasions - but always for worthwhile reasons and none we regret.

    Good luck on the way.

*Jellie* I have just noticed your PM that you sent the other day. Feel free to update this, and sorry for not keeping it up to date. I was going to bump it every so often with comments to remind everyone but it didn't seem that popular.

    I've updated my entry.

Wow, Tilly really has made some progress, £80k off already, well done.

    No need to apologise Tony
It helps to know that other people are also paying off larger mortgages and that they're making progress.

I dug out Tony's post, no. 63, along with his instructions above. Tony, I hope you don't mind that I'm adding to the instructions.

When you wish to post your new mortgage balance can you copy and paste the instructions and last list in the thread and into a new reply, find your name and type your December 2012 mortgage balance in blue. This way the new balances will stand out. In December 2013 the colour could be red!

If anyone is new or is not on the list please add yourself to the bottom of the list with your December 2012 balance in blue, and re-post as above.

If you have graduated from the 100K club please show in the usual way: :jYear Graduate:j

If you have a diary and would like to link to it; please do so when you update your balance.

    Thanks.

I am a bit ashamed that we are still stuck at £224,999...

We have had a busy year financially and are investing in a number of projects which is taking up spare cash. and we got married in October (booking in August)! and i'm very proud that we swallowed the whole cost of the wedding without any problems. that could have been another chunk off the mortgage but never mind :)

I love seeing how others are doing - some brilliant work!
    Paying down the mortgage:
    At 1 October 2011: £226,000
    Currently: £224,499
    Aim: 85% LTV (£212,500)
    Paid £1,500
    Target remaining: 88.89%
