Morning Hurdler, i usually use TCB as it gives a slightly better rate than Quidc0 with the "top up" rate added. I always check Martins cashback checker though just incase..

I love the sound of Vernon.. Is he an instant savings account that you put your extra cash into?? I may be adopting this strategy myself.. I can only pay in over £500 at a time, but i'm not sure which type of account to use.

£95K is 4 years is amazing. Well done.
Does that mean you are leaving us?

Oh I am still going to be active - I have been so snowed with school and work so I haven't really participated as much as I should have - so will try and post a lot more regularly... I am going to dip in here from time to time to cheer all the rest of the £100K clubbers on... I think I have maybe a good 2-3 months in my current role before trying to make that transition...

  • Hi,

Have not been on here for a while.

To help with overpayments, I have set up a monthly direct debit to overpay around £600 every month. This has meant that it's a budgeted amount that is being paid every month so I have to adjust the rest of our spending accordingly.

Also I plan to top up the overpayments with the savings at the end of the year.

Hopefully, will be below the 150K milestone by August.

    A club I can (sadly) join! :)

    Username: Perelandra
Original mortgage amount: £167,500 (nearly two years ago)
    Overpayments made: £6,000
    Outstanding Balance: £158,000

My goal is to overpay by £2k/month, which I've been doing for the last three months. The first 18 months of the mortage was spent on renovating the property... hence the rather slow start on my MFW journey! In a few months time I hope to be able to switch to a cheaper deal (1% interest saving) which will help a little.

Hopefully get rid of the thing in 6 years or so... barring changes in circumstances of course!

I hadn't spotted this thread before- I'm another long hauler and it is really helpful to know we are not the only ones.
I'll be back later with my figures. It also seems a good idea to have a target for getting under the next milestone figure as we'll be at least 10 years with mortgage and that target seems a very long way off.

  • Me too, after our big OP to remortgage at 60% LTV in March we'll be at 232k on the main house mortgage.

Plus a second BTL with £120k

Sadly both of them qualify me for this club.

We're doing well though,we took £264k in May 2011. Im a SAHM now though so its all going to slow down. All my income from being back at work between kids has gone on this big OP we're making.
I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

    Mortgage overpay 2012: £10,815; 2013: £27,562
    Mortgage start £264k, now £232k

and here is the breakdown. Some will be out of date as they've not all been updated by everyone. When and if you make an overpayment update this and re-post. If you are new add yourself.

I dug out Tony's post, no. 63, along with his instructions above. Tony, I hope you don't mind that I'm adding to the instructions.

When you wish to post your new mortgage balance can you copy and paste the instructions and last list in the thread and into a new reply, find your name and type your December 2012 mortgage balance in blue. This way the new balances will stand out. In December 2013 the colour could be red!

If anyone is new or is not on the list please add yourself to the bottom of the list with your December 2012 balance in blue, and re-post as above.

If you have graduated from the 100K club please show in the usual way: :jYear Graduate:j

If you have a diary and would like to link to it; please do so when you update your balance.

    Thanks.

OK- I'm going to try and update the list so fingers crossed! Stirctly speaking we should be at number 3 but I'll add myself to the bottom as Peonie suggested.

Tilly- I've updated your total while I was doing this. What an achievement. I need to fgure out what you're doing and copy it.

Hmmm, I did consider whether newcomers should be slotted in, but as people are joining on different months it would not be a true comparison of our starting points. But if we did the list based on our latest December balances and anyone who updates moves their 'line' to the top of the list and slots themselves into the right spot; then those who do not post their new balance will fall to the bottom of the list. What does everyone think? Would this be too much hassle/work:
