monarch charge you £18.99 EACH WAY for each 20kilo bag.. this is not part of the ticket price..... take a suitcase pay the extra... you do get 10kilo's of handluggae though...

They actually charge you £18.99 for each bag but the 20 kgs is the total weight allowed, not per bag.
    From their website:-
Pre-book your hold bags now and save up to 40% on the airport price! Total hold baggage allowance is 20kg per person (plus 10kg for any infants), regardless of number of bags purchased.

Most "low cost/charter" airlines now charge for bags, here is a link to a Telegraph article on charges, bit out of date, May 2010, so prices not acurate. Baggage costs.

Damned! It's not like back in the good old days of Monarch (2003 - incidentally when I joined this forum).

Is the 10kg of hand luggage also dependent on the size of the bag?

Yes, again from their site, and applicable to scheduled flights, flight numbers starting with ZB:-

    Is hand baggage still free?

Yes, you can take up to 10kg of hand baggage free of charge.
Important: Any hand baggage found to exceed weight and size restrictions at the gate after 1st April will be placed in the hold and a £50 / €62 penalty charge will be levied.
Hand baggage dimensions should not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (including handles and wheels)

Why do people get upset over this? If they had included it in the price initially and said 20KG FREE hold luggage, no one would complain. By seperating it you now have a choice.
BTW with your 10KG each hand luggage your family of 3 have up to 90KG of luggage. That is just ridiculous. You could easily get away with buying just 1 x hold luggage + 3 x hand luggage.

You have freedom to choose your airline. Nobody has you by the balls.

£800 for 3 seems to be beatable - must be the dates you have chosen.

The days of cheap air travel are over - exchange rates and oil prices, plus UK flight taxes and reduction in number of flights.

I've just looked at the invoice for the trip we have just returned from. We were charged £50 for two 20kg cases both ways on a Monarch scheduled flight. I thought the overall cost, luggage included, was reasonable considering the time of year.

Just using hand luggage is possible but doesn't suit everybody. My hand luggage weighed 8.5 kg and it didn't have much more than my camera stuff in it.

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
