It looks as though the people whose number is showing, are those who have filled it in on their profile. So, panic over! :D
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

yes seems like it, you can chnage who sees your number anyway so chnage it to no 1 then it should be ok
  • I noticed this had happened to my Facebook account so I have now edited my account so the phone numbers from my phone are supposedly removed. I have an Iphone too so I have edited my phone's security so it will no longer sync my contacts with Facebook, as I was not aware this would happen automatically.

I had been trying to work out for a while why Facebook was suggesting certain people as friends, especially one person who I had no mutual friends with and we had not been in contact through Facebook at all. After seeing that my phone contacts had been imported onto Facebook, I noticed this one persons number was in my phone, so it had matched him up to my account because he had added his number to Facebook.

PHONE NUMBERS OF ALL are now on Facebook! No joke -

go to the top right of the screen when logged on,
click on Account, then click on Edit Friends,
then go to the far left of the screen and click on Contacts.

    All phone numbers are published.

Please repost this on your Status, so your friends can remove their numbers and thus prevent abuse. please check yours people ..this isnt a hoax- seen on a good friends wall..

SEEMS WHEN YOU USE YOUR PHONE FOR FACEBOOK ALL CONTACTS ARE TRANSFERRED ON TO HERE

Prime example of how mass hysteria kicks off.:T

There's an awful lot of hysteria about Facebook.

Has ANYONE actually reported any kind of repercussions from having their phone number on Facebook, whether they realised it was on there or not? Presumably if this was such a huge problem as these constant posts make out, people would have known without having to check their account settings?

does no on else actually subscribe to facebooks own facebook page...........
Rumors claiming that your phone contacts are visible to everyone on Facebook are false. Our Contacts list, formerly called Phonebook, has existed for a long time. The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers.

I can report that last weekend 18 year old DS went out with his mate (who is one of my FB friends), I wasn't sure if he was coming home or not and didn't want to lock up if he was so I called him. DS phone was dead.

FB gave me the number of his mate, who I was able to call and establish what was happening. Sorted.

Sorry I cannot provide any hysterical "OH MY GOD GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FRIENDS SISTERS UNCLES MATE!" stories but I actually found it incredibly useful.

I've just purchased a Blackberry today and was concerned about this issue.

This is what I found on facebook about it.

Imported contacts are displayed on your Invites and imported contacts page and synced mobile contacts are displayed in your Facebook phonebook. Contacts may be used to improve the quality of friend suggestions for you and your friends.
If you remove imported and synced contacts:
    • Friend suggestions for you and your friends may become less relevant.
    • Your phonebook will no longer include synced contacts, but will still display the contact info of friends who have included it on their profiles.
Note: Before you click Remove, you need to make sure syncing is switched off.
To do this, open the Facebook application on your iPhone, click the Friends icon in the main menu, then click Sync in the upper-right.
