I live quite close to Minehead and if you have the chance get out and about, there is some lovely countryside surrounding Minehead itself with better beaches. I'd have a look at the Tourist Info places for Somerset. The West Somerset Railway passes the bottom of Butlins, and is great for a day out. I would seriously recommend Clarks Village as well, this was the first of the shopping outlet style places and to my mind still the best. You can get shoes there for seriously low prices, not just Clarks but other brands as well. There is also a Next outlet shop as well as M&S, Monsoon and about 50 others. It is well worth the price of the petrol. Great to stock up on presents for all sorts of occasions.

Thanks everyone, we've booked it today and Im really looking forward to it now. We just booked the basic accomodation but we will take some home comforts with us. Extra heater and duvets, maybe a couple of beanbags. Ive gone for self catering as I am a bit fussy about food. I take it you can buy a meal or breakfast in the restaurant?
I will definately be taking a trip to the Clarks village for a bit of retail therapy:)

I stayed in Butlins Minehead with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago (Basic but half board)

The accomodation was pleasent enough looking, compared to pontins or haven anyway, and the interior was clean and just fine.

You will be glad you went self catering, the food in the restaurant is awful, chips chips chips served with bad quality fish or a bad processed meal.

There was an upgrade area called Yacht Club which from the outside looked like it had a slight bit more added to the food budget, but i think the price to eat there is like £7ish.

I would eat in one of the cafes in minehead town or go the the tescos 5 mins away and cook your dinners. :)

If you can take some food provisions with you as the shops and cafes hike the prices up sky high. The bar drinks are also higher than anywhere else. Even Burger King in the Skyline has added a pound or two on to the price of each item.

  • We have been several times. It is ideal for young children. The evening entertainment has been very good. I did find when the children were younger that they were so worn out from the day that I had a job to get them out for the evening though. We did half board there and personally I would not recommend it. Hundreds of people milling about endlessly getting up and down for the self service food. I thought the food was very good, so did my fussy eater children who thought it was perfect having so much choice. It was just the chaos and noise I didn't like. My son and I wanted to go on the railway in Minehead but were out voted. you wont need extra duvets itc as the heating is free and efficient.

forgot to add,if you use a microwave at home then either bring your own or hire one

that is one thing we missed whilst there lol,as it doesnt come with a microwave in the basic accom
though we could have hired one, ditto for irons etc

as mentioned above the heating works well so you wont need the extra bedding

I also missed not having a toaster. Waiting for the grill in the oven to make toast took forever.
