I agree that commenting on every post you read makes the forum extremely confusing although the occasional comment, where it is warranted does not cause a problem.

The main reason I think the issue was raised was to avoid people simply commenting to articicially reorder the threads just so they know which ones they've read. As long as thats not done its not a problem at all......

Hey and crazychicks apologised for it now anyway ;) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'll probably get flamed for this, but tbh I don't care its just my thoughts

I was thinking about this thread last night after I posted on it and a conversation I had with djl on a thread this morning sparked it off again

Is it really that bad that someone thanks a thread by typing? yes I know its annoying as it does bump up a comp that many may have entered and then they assume its a new one and sometimes I find it mildly amusing when people drag up ones from ages ago... I think to myself god how many pages did you go back to find that one!

But we can't say who can post what where and when, this is a public forum after all, and the convo with djl this morning made me realise that some people may have read this thread and maybe felt a little put off, he felt bad that he was posting comments in a thread... and I don't want people to feel like that, I want them to come in here and enjoy what we do, add to what we do and make the comping community bigger and better and keep it going from strength to strength.

We can all make suggestions as to how this board could be run better, but ultimately if they were to be implemented it would probably make it a whole lot harder for the BG's as they run other boards too... we can suggest that newbies read the rules, but they probably won't. I don't think I've even read the rules properly and I've been posting on here for 2 and a half years!!

I think its a case of live and let live, if a thread gets bumped.. then so be it, I for one don't want to see this board looking like there is a load of whiny moaners on here

Don't see who would flame you on here Kipper  I can understand why it's probably not such a problem for you, but you are in a unique position on here. You don't use the board the same as the 'average' comper, or that's the way it seems. You're here a lot posting and I presume keep track as you go along? And I don't think you enter many anyway. Or just don't use the 'Thanks' button to keep track, maybe you have some other system, but for me, and others, who like to enter every comp and occasionally have days where we can't do any and then come back to try and catch up, it is frustrating.

When I was a newbie on here, one time I posted a duplicate you put on my thread 'At the risk of being shouted at, this has already been posted here  ' and I remember being a little miffed at that but then you notice that even regulars post duplicates and it's not really personal, it's just best to keep the forum running as smoothly as possible for everyones' benefit.

I don't enter many either, I never know what to put. I did win a caption competition once though so I should try harder.

I enter tie breakers and enjoy playing with words. Most of my best wins have been from them. Are there less around or is that just my perception?

Its going to be a difficult balance to get. I do think we need some basic board conventions, which is why the stickies are useful. I love the chatter on the boards. Having been off work since January with an injury, I really appreciate the day to day good natured banter and chat on here. I do think though we have quite a close group of regulars and we must be very careful to make sure everyone else gets included and feels they are welcome to contribute. That is why I always try to reply personally to everyone who joins the comping challenge.

I see no harm in asking people to click the thanks button rather than posting a reply. I don't think we should discourage them from making comments. I always like meeting new people, so love it when new people join. There have been obvious benefits too in terms of more comps being posted.

We are generally a very good natured and friendly lot and give fairly selflessly of our time to help newbies. It was a bit galling to realise yesterday that there wasn't any mutal consideration be given by at least one poster. I guess that's life though.

I think you'll find that I do enter quite a few competitions , not all admittedly because a lot don't interest me and I do thank the ones that I do enter, I have no tracking system of what I do and don't enter either... could say I'm not that anal and don't take it that seriously... but hey thats just me

I am going to take a step back from the comps board again for a while, threads like this will take the fun out of the place and people will inevitably disagree and that is not what this board is about, it should be fun, not snippy with you did this, you did that, stop typing thanking replies in threads etc etc

its the exact same reason why I come back here from posting in the moneysavers arms for a fair while, it just got plain silly and I didn't want to post in there anymore and I very rarely do now

I don't like the way things are going at the moment to be quite honest, and yes that is just my opinion and I don't need it commented on, I'm sure I will return because I love this board but I'm out of love with it at this time, so for the moment its adios

Strepsy I apologise to you if I offended you in anyway either now or in the past and if I have offended anyone else in the same way then apologies to you to

as I said before, Happy Comping

I'm going to leave my original post ^^^ up there in, because I said what I said in the heat of the moment and it would be stupid to retract it...

I just didn't like the way I was called "unique"... I'm no different to anyone else on here ( except the fact I have a rather large post and thanks count!)

I enter some comps, I don't enter some comps and I post for the benefit of others not myself

I'm going to keep my gob shut now, not post on this thread anymore , and maybe look for a few comps!

Oh they're not on the ends of every supermarket aisle anymore, but if you keep your ear to the ground so to speak, there's enough around to keep the grey cells working. Infact perhaps with not being so many, more time can be spent on some of them without the "oh that'll have to do" hurried entry.

I didn't like the way you expressed that you thought people on this thread would flame you, or that we were whiny moaners. And in your second post that people who keep track of what they enter are anal, that threads like the one I've started are taking the fun from the board or that any of us asking for thought on this matter are being snippy.

I'm sure you didn't mean offense from any of those things and I'll take your advice and won't post further on this matter. I'm just letting you know how your words came across to me as you have done about mine.
