No but it helps her understand why the phone bill maybe so high. Kids aren't always the best at trying to make their parents understand how their gadgets work.
Was just trying to help having been in a similar situation myself.0 -

Simple. Her son was caning the the data. At £7.50 per MB that is equal to 280MB. It's not easy to rack that up by accident.
That is the determined upload/download of pictures and videos.
I've had my BlackBerry for three weeks now and still haven't used 1 MB.
That should tell you something.0 -

Ok you know best. God forbid anyone who comes on here requiring help.
Just trying to help someone who I thought didn't understand how all the MB's, data roaming !!!! works as I didn't when I tried to get my head round the bill that my sons phone ran up.
He didn't download anything and all he did was listen to pre recorded music on his phone. Just so happened that he didnt have to use his to run up a bill. Thought it may have been the case with her son.
We aren't all tchno geeks0 -
Perhaps it would be better if you post the model of mobile concerned. That way you can actually help each other.0

My phone has data roaming turned off by default and has been like that since I got it. If I press to turn it on, a warning come up saying "Turn data roaming on? You may incur significant roaming charges!"0

Actually 280 MB is quite easy to rack up, especially on social networking sites with photos and buy streaming music.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
This is why I shall be buying a non-3G tablet and a MiFi, the MiFi will be off unless required, and it will contain a PAYG sim from the country we are in. A simple answer to problems like this would be to remove the sim card and keep it somewhere safe for emergencies, it there is no sim in the card then it can only be used wifi (never tried it with a phone, but I assume this would work?).What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Forewarned is forearmed. Thanks to the countless horror stories on this site, I warned my children under pain of death not to use smart phones abroad, so last month they took their ipod Touches for wifi and were able to do vital things like Facebook for free in lots of different places, including airports and luckily our apartment. Despite that, the elder one got in a huff one day, switched roaming on and spent £18 on data without even trying. Luckily that was the last day.
A week later that same daughter was backpacking in Asia (still there), taking an ancient data-less Nokia with her Blackberry sim and her trusty ipod Touch. She gave me her mobile password so that I could sort out any problems, so after a week I phoned o2 to check and she'd rattled up £40 on texts and short in-country calls, even after getting the International bolt-on.
That convinced her that seemingly short calls and texts all add up quickly, so now she sticks to Skype and free wifi abroad. Sadly for the OP, it's very easy to see how these things just balloon out of all proportion, especially when children are involved.
I'm going to get myself a Touch now, as at least I'll get on the internet but the costs won't get mental.0 -
"and were able to do vital things like Facebook"
'doing' Facebook is not vital. Eating, drinking, breathing are vital Facebook is not, they should get a life.0 -

"Vital" being very much tongue in cheek, but almost all kids I'm aware of seem to be glued to Facebook at all times.
To me it's the spawn of the devil, but I'm not a teenager.0
