Ok, I take back what I said about getting my first NEA payment - I got a letter through today saying that the payment was a "Get Britain Working" payment, for the weekly period of 3/6 - 10/6. Anyone know what a "get britain working" payment is about?!0

I HAVE HEARD FROM MY MENTOR , HE IS ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so after not hearing from him for 5 months actually it was an email to everyone but he has not forgotten me completely, he has given me a link which I am not sure if I am supposed to post on but we all need help so have a browse http://www.enterprisenation.com/blog/the-return-of-fund101/
As for my missing payments from the higher NEA rate to the lower apparently they "forgot" and after nearly 4 weeks of no payments it should be in Friday for the next 13 weeks!
I may forget to pay my council tax this month ...... sorry I forgot!!
(pinkypoopydoo) not entirely sure mate but when I left JSA to go onto NEA I was given a £100 back to work payment, not sure if that's any use to you .
Good to see more people getting on here all these new self employed ex JSA'ers will make David Cameron look good :T, lets hope everyone can make a go of it in the long term.
I had a chat with my ex JSA advisor yesterday when I was seeking my "forgotten" payments and I asked him how the figures looked for NEA, and his answer was that although he could not give me exact numbers , of the 40ish candidates put forward to have NEA (during an unspecified time period) in our area only around half are still working through NEA, the rest are back on the JSA , difficult to say if that is good or not but clearly not everyone can make a good hand of it and if they have my Mr Motivator of a mentor i'm not really surprised.
Of the 6 that were on my induction only 2 of us are left as self employed the others dropped out after not making any money and are back seeking work , not quite the success that the media seem to be portraying by the looks .
Good luck to those still going , keep pushing guys .0 -

That link is fab - I'm pretty sure bookkeeping services are far too mundane to ever get shortlisted for something like that, but I've thrown in an application.Loads of useful stuff on the rest of the site too.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, that you get your payment through now - I'm going to have to phone about this stupid "get Britain Working" payment, as a google seems to bring up lots about it being about work placements and the work programme, neither of which are relevant to my situation.0 -
Blimey- i had to phone the job centre today, as its now been 6 weeks and i haven't heard from the 'mentor'.
The mentor says that i haven't been referred yet, that my advisor hasn't done it! But i know he has, as i was there when he sent the email referring me, and i was also there when he emailed them last week to find out what's going on (they say they didn't receive that email either)....i wouldn't mind so much, but i am stuck on JSA until this is sorted out...grrrrr!!
Nobody seems to know what they are doing in regards to the NEA here, glad to hear that others are having more success!0 -

How long is it now that you have been on JSA as remember as soon as you have been claiming a year they say your not able to get onto NEA.0 -
pinkypoopydoo keeping your fingers crossed worked, I have a payment in today ,didn't know I would get so excited over £33 :j.
Glad you like the link I thought it may help a few of you, we need any help we can get don't we.
WantToBeSE, its no different at my JC, only one chap I speak to knows what NEA is all about and even the paymnts office were not sure how much the payments should have been for the second batch of 13 weeks, I had to tell them it was £33, quite worrying really as its clearly a massive training issue having them not knowing whats best for the JSA'ers .0 -
Yay!! Glad your payment went in! I phoned about the £130 Get Britain Working payment today, and DWP have no record of making the payment, despite it being in my bank, and receiving a letter about it. The girl said "we'll assume, for now, it's your NEA payments kicking in, shall we?" I've spent all day on the phone between HMRC (who have decided I was defrauding them as I'd made a tax credit claim as a single parent, and were asking me why I hadn;t included my ex-husband on my claim. Think it's all sorted now though, as he's been on the electoral role at his girlfriends house for most of the 3 years) and DWP, and am a tad stressed, so think I may splash out some of the mystery payment on a large bottle of gin this evening.0

You should have told her just to assume that its a Get Britain working payment and that they still owe NEA money.0 -
Was reading an article today that said according to statistics that most new start up businesses will fail to make any profit in their first year.
Was wondering what everyones expectations are on here regarding profit/loss.
1. How long will it take to make any profit?
2. What is expected profit/loss after 6 month NEA period?
3. What is expected profit/loss after end of year 1?0 -
I think I depends on what kind of business you have as if you have massive start up costs then profit is going to be hard to make for quite some time and the first year could indeed be negative.
Myself I buy and sell and not having much capital in the first place I reinvest around 80% of my income to continue the growth and buy stock each week so profit figures are quite low but turnover is reasonable.
My gross profit is averaging £1200 a month and rising so it all depends on how much I want to put back in .
End of year 1 is a little difficult to guess as I hope to continue as I am which would be around the 10-12k mark gross profit but I may invest around 8k of that so my end Net profit will be quite low.
In my case I could very well show no profit at the end of year if I want to really push and buy even more stock, my business is a long term thing, over 3 years of expansion trying to put myself into a stable position for the future.
For someone running a business with high start-up costs but low monthly costs it would be harder to make a profit initially but once the start-up is paid off profits will be more freely available.0
