Asked Vodaphone to cancel, they didn't

First time poster here. Hello everyone
Back in April I got a new contract phone with Vodaphone. I wanted to transfer my old number from my other contract onto the new one, but was told it wasn't a simple process. They said I would have to change my old contract to pay as you go, and then enter a PAC code online to transfer the number.
I asked them to change my old contract to PAYG, and my understanding was that they would do this.
I tried the PAC code on the internet, found it to be a massive ball aching faff, and knocked it on the head, and chucked the old phone in a drawer.
Imagine my surprise when I got some delayed bank statements that showed Vodaphone are still charging me for my contract. I've been in touch and they haven't been much help. How can I best get my money back? I made the phonecall to them asking to be switched to PAYG on the 5th May, so if we call that my 30 day notice, then by rights I shouldn't have been charged again after my DD went out on the 1st June should I?

If you don't use the PAC code within 30 days it expires and the contract continues. You're stuffed; you now need either to get another PAC code and use it or give 30 days' notice to cancel. Until then your contract will continue to run.0

I've already given them my notice, but they've sent me another reply about using my PAC code. I've just replied making it as clear as I possibly could that my previous email outlining my wishes to cancel my contract was exactly that, and not a 2nd request to change my number. Hopefully they understand this time. Sounds like I have no option but to pay up the money I shouldn't really owe them.
Thanks for your help guys0 -

I cant understand why you didnt simply upgrade the contract with the number you wished to keep. If you had, there would have been no reason to cancel giving 30 days notice.
Vodafone gave you a PAC code which would have been valid for 30 days and if it was not used, the contract would have continued to roll over. You owe the money.0 -
Got a better deal through phones4u. Obviously this now hasn't worked out to be a better deal :mad:0

Actually it's money you do owe them.
Contracts need to be active for a PAC to work, so by requesting a PAC you cancelled your caancellation of the contract.
As initiall requested a PAC but dind't use it then the contract went back to the normail 30 day contract, sorry to be the bearer of the bad news but as you didn;t use that inital PAC your the one at fault.0 -

Even if the OP didnt use the PAC code, the contract should have been changed to PAYG as this is what was requested and vodafone agreed to do this.
It seems you were given poor advice (really?? from vodafone?) as, from how I read it, you had a vodafone contract and were wanting to change the number to another vodafone contract. A PAC code can only be used if you change provider. What you would have to have done is get a PAYG sim from another network (ie orange) and used a PAC code to transfer your number to orange, then got a PAC from orange to transfer the number to the new vodafone contract.
If the conversation was by email and you still have evidence then you probably do have a case here as you were given wrong advice and were told the contract would be changed to PAYG.0 -
Nope, unfortunately the conversation was over the phone and it will cost me £10 to find out if it was recorded. I think this is going to have to go down as a lesson learned for me.0

Vodafone dont accept cancellation requests over the phone, they always insists on having it in writing by email or letter. You would also have been unable to ask Vodafone to transfer the number to PAYG on the basis of a phone call.
Details of how to end your pay monthly contract are on the website with the email and postal address. You should have been advised the correct way to cancel and transfer your number to PAYG when you called Vodafone.
If you had wanted to transfer your other contract number which was out of commitment to your new Phone 4U contract, it would have been unnecessary to transfer the number to PAYG and over to another network and back onto your new contract, you would only have needed to call the Porting Department on 08080 945 945, Option 3 and they would have transferred the number.0 -

classic case of being screwed by the third party phone dealer... I used to work for T-Mobile and this is common.
The reason why you got a better deal in the first place is because Phones4U connected you with a new customer deal... which more than likely would be better than a normal upgrade...
For this scam to work, you would have had to use the PAC code with another network PAYG, then call them, get a new PAC for the new network and transfer the number back to Vodafone...0
