Any other overtimers here?

My employer offers nearly unlimited overtime almost continuously (in two years of employment, I can think of only one week in which overtime was not available), either at the office or work at home.

I'm planning to do lots of overtime in 2007 to work on my debts. For me, it's the best way of making extra money, and makes my boss happy too! :p

Does anyone else use overtime as their biggest extra-income generator?

Yes (but call outs), back in the glory days I could make an extra £500-£900 a month after tax. It was a good way of helping but that was short lived. Now its more like £120 a month but every little helps!
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

Same here, i use to do quite a lot but working almost 6-7 days a week soon got tiring.

I'm going in this Saturday, then shall probably go in the rest of the month on a Saturday just to make some extra cash.
  • yeah, me too. I'm really lucky though, cos I can do overtime at home on work laptop. Did a few hours over the christmas hols which will bring in around £250 - bonus!!!:D

sadly not - it was available last year, but my work tend to expect up to 10 hours a week for free.

its a decent job so I shouldnt complain but...
  • yep me when i was part time but now i am full time my employers wont pay me my overtime rate... i do however try and do all the bank holidays :) at double time... at least i then get my 'normal wage' as all the tax for the month is covered in the overtime :)

I'm lucky, in a way, that my employers are currently chronically understaffed. I often get asked to start an hour early, or stay an hour late. I also quite often have the option to work through my lunch break and be paid an extra hour (just take 10 mins to eat my sarnies!). Sundays are paid double time, but sadly are thin on the ground. They don't want to recruit more staff because, this Spring there will be some changes which means some of our work will move to another office so as people leave, they aren't being replaced.

We also had a bout of the flu in our office last week so more overtime :) I actually get excited when I'm in early and the sick line phone rings, because I know it means I'll get asked to cover.

The funny thing is this year, I'm getting quite a good bonus. In my review the manager said part of the reason for this was that I'd helped the company out by doing so much overtime. I kept quiet about needing the money and made a comment about how I felt I needed to help out in a time of crisis :)

I did 20 hours at home over the 4 day Christmas weekend. My husband doesn't like me doing that much in general, but we'd just had a £300 car repair bill. I have to be careful not to take on too much, because I'm also studying for two professional exams in April, and I get overwhelmed easily.

I think I'll set a goal of earning an extra £150/month in overtime between now and April, and then see about upping that goal after my exams.

Like other folk on here, my Standby/Callout payments greatly enhnce my salary (by £15k a year).

It's generally relatively straightforward to cover but not so good when something disatrous goes wrong.

Working all night on New Year's Day evening when you should be asleep anybody (and then having to go straight back in to work for the day 1/2 an hour later...)?

Having said that, I'm VERY thankful for it!
