ISA investment confusion

Hi
Making this topic on behalf of a family member.

They have a ISA from Halifax but im rather confused about what exactly this ISA is and who owns it.

It is listed as a ISA but it seems it is a stock and share ISA.

The letter is from Halifax but it says on the letter
HBOS investment managers limited

It has a plan number but unsure what exactly this helps me do, as you cannot search halifax site with this plan number for further info.

It lists the shares ect as
UK Growth fund, retail share class C
UK equity income, retail share class C

Need help in finding out what exactly this ISA/stock and share is and how its performing as it very hard atm to find out more about it.

help needed.

Halifax is the ISA manager and the fund manager.

Halifax funds are dire, like most bank funds. They are also currently 100% UK equity which is very poor investing. Its medium/high risk (and probably higher risk due to lack of diversification - although not technically higher risk in itself).

It looks like the bank hoodwinked them into buying a poor fund from HBOS. I would sell if if you can, and get some decent funds.

You wouldnt sell them. You would transfer them. NO point losing the ISA status and by transferring them you keep that

Could be the "Halifax ISA Investor", which is no longer on sale.

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/investments/help-guidance/common-enquiries/isa-investor/

Ordinarily your relative would be able to view the account under Online Banking, and see the daily valuations. But this was withdrawn as part of the Lloyds merger transition, with a promise to restore it later, so currently it has to be managed by phone. The "plan number" is the account number.

(Note the division which runs the packaged ISAs is totally separate from the Halifax sharedealing service which runs the self-select stocks & shares ISA).

In fact the daily unit prices are online here

if you've got details of the number of units held.

Got family member to go into the branch and bassically the ISA has gone from around £2000ish when bought in 2008 ish to around £4700 ish

She was told though sinse the last letter that was sent to her in july the shares have now fallen £500 but that was pretty much all the information given.

family member is worried the shares will continue to fall and so thinking about selling, problem is from what i see is by this stage they have dropped even more and it be a better idea to wait for the markets to recover before moving them?

And if it is time to mvoe where to?

Is the family member worried when they go up as well?

Has the family member confirmed that its 100% equity?

markets go up and down all the time. That is normal. You cant have the good without the bad and indifferent.

we still dont know where they currently are.

  • Sorry to intrude but does anyone know of a website listing the historic values for these funds? I have tried various web searchs without success.
    Thanks
