We have a trailer tent and hence the sleeping area is raised from the floor. We took DS1 camping for the weekend at two and a half weeks old. He slept in a carry cot between the two beds. MrsLA was breastfeeding so no worries there, either. It was fine and he's 17 now with no ill effects

So do I but what campsite would have enough room to isolate a crying baby 100 yards away from any other camper?
I've been to plenty of them. Three this year alone.

We took our 3month old last summer and he was less trouble then than at 12months this year. We were given a pop up tent cot thingy by friends as a baby gift. It has been invaluable. I say do it!

Just back from camping with my 8 month old and from 4 months I could see no problem, easier if the baby is sleeping through because if I'd have to have gotten up to feed him in the night it would have been a pain. He had a pop up moses basket that we already knew he slept well in, I used the sterilising bags to do his bottles with the liquid formula and took jars of baby porridge although he did have cheerios the first night and apart from breakfast we ate out as we had alot of family events to go to, a towel on the tent floor to change his nappy on and another for him to sit and play on but our 10 man tent is huge. There were noisy people next to us for 3 nights, they kept us up but all 3 kids slept through their noise no problem. I've been to better campsites when DS was little that had fab facilities, the problem with where we went is we decided it was better to leave off the baby having a bath as it was a baby shower thing which started off freezing and then got to burning hot and had no inbetween temp so we did complain about that.

During school holidays? Most good sites are fairly full during the summer.

Having a baby crying in the night is stressful enough for the parents. When you also have angry campers shouting and swearing at you because of the noise the baby is making, it doesn't make for an enjoyable holiday!

Keith hasn't replied yet but maybe he's got a good sleeper and it won't be an issue.

There were alot of babies and I honestly dont think I heard any but I did hear a few snorers eeek - That was once the noisey bunch had gone to sleep though before that all you could hear was them shouting.

Depends on the site, doesn't it? Do you want a full list with addresses and drawn plans :rotfl:

It would be nice to know a few sites that have plenty of space.

We always try to go away before the school holidays start so that there are fewer people on site.
  • You seem to know your stuff and aren't worried about it - so go for it!

Last year we met a couple who had cycled to the north of Scotland with their 7 week old in a bike trailer camping in two tiny 1 person tents - I was a bit shocked, but each to their own (good on her for being able to cycle that far 7 weeks after birth!). However, the weather was hiddeous (we were a bit worried in a caravan, several awnings and a couple of unoccupied tents blew away) and I wasn't surprised when they had gone when I woke up and I heard they had booked into a B&B late at night. They didn't even have a car to shelter in & were days travel away from home - so I think you could make things a bit hard for yourselves!

Try Greenhill Leisure Park near Oxford. Amazing place, the toilets/showers are out of this world, as are the home produced burgers in the shop.
They have 3 huge places to camp in, I was there the first week of the school holiday for a few days, they will put you on your own if you ask it and they should have enough space to do it.
