Camping - 4 month old - Too Young?

Hello,

Would you say a 4 month old baby is too young to go camping?

Sorry, but in my opinion, yes.

If the weather is bad it could get cold very quickly, and with the light coming through tent walls till ate at night and early in the morning, you'll struggle to get a good nights sleep and so will they.

Never mind the fun of sterilising/nappies etc.

Caravan, no problem, but I personally wouldn't, although I am sure some will disagree - maybe listen to people who have done it!

If the parents are experienced campers and feel that they can manage, then I think it is fine, provided that common sense precautions are taken (no extreme weather, not go too far away from medical facilities, no nasty bugs etc.)

For practical reasons it may be much trickier if the baby is not breast fed. Also, be prepared to carry diapers around since the nearest bin could be quite far away :-)

Partner is happy, it's her idea. Baby is breast fed so no sterilising. Nappy changing hadn't considered but would be on picnic blanket/in tent.

Lots of experience, good quality kit, etc. Only going 35 minutes away from home.
  • I took my son camping at the age of 4 months. He is 38 now and survived the experience.

How to you think people who lived in tents hundreds of years ago managed?

As long as you are sensible then no problems, yes I would not travel too far away from home the first time, but stop worrying.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

I think 104 years is to young for camping *shudder* ut if you and your partner are happy with it then go.. you can always come home earlier than planned or book into a travel lodge or something if it gets too much.

Should be fine. Just make sure you don't put any pressure on each other to make it a success - it is ok to change one's mind and just go back home any time if you want to. If you are only 35 minutes away from home it is no problem to go back any time if you feel like it.

I think you'll have a fab time - children survive and even thrive in worse situations than a few nights camping!

No, I don't think it's too young, as long as you are well prepared.

as long as you are prepared!

We're going on holiday in a few weeks to Spain and everyone was telling us we'd need everything but the kitchen sink!! But actually we don't - apart from the obvious outfits, hats, nappies, wipes, suncream and blankets - all we're taking is 2 tins formula, sterilising tablets/bags and a few bottles :-) (and buggy and parasol)
