It's easier at that age than when they start crawling and there's only a muddy field to crawl on!
  • No way is it too young! As someone said above, take the opportunity now before they start crawling! As far as I'm aware camping's not exactly a dangerous activity........ ;)

I wouldn't have wanted to do it myself but if your partner is happy & you are close to home then why not?!

I trust you have a settled baby & good sleeper - my little one didnt go more than 3 hours at night till he was about 6 months - or the persons near you in tents may not be happy!

Good point, I'd tell the campsite when you book about the baby and ask for a quiet spot away from other people and tents.

The way sound carries at night there won't be anywhere far enough away from other campers. If you've got a crier, either don't go or send Mum and baby home for the nights. They can come back and enjoy the days with you on the site.

Absolutely fine. :) Think we were bought camping younger than that.

I took my 4 month old camping with no problems at all. I think as an experienced camper it just something you do. She was snug and comfy in her baby grobag with an extra blanket (I did take a complete change of bedding in case it needed changing in the night - It would be worth checking that you could wash it if necessary or take more). I found she did wake early (6 maybe) but at that age a session on the boob was all she needed to go back to sleep until a more reasonable time (8ish)
The only note of caution I would add is do you have a tent with room to set up a travel cot/moses basket? as babies sleeping on airbeds is a SIDS risk.
Other than that I say go for it and have fun!

If there was a choice between being right next door to a tent with a young baby in it and 100 yards away, I know which I'd choose ;)

So do I but what campsite would have enough room to isolate a crying baby 100 yards away from any other camper?

Having a baby crying in the night is stressful enough for the parents. When you also have angry campers shouting and swearing at you because of the noise the baby is making, it doesn't make for an enjoyable holiday!

Keith hasn't replied yet but maybe he's got a good sleeper and it won't be an issue.

    Thanks all,

She's a good sleeper so should be fine, only wakes once for a feed and only really cries for food.

Didn't know the SIDS risk with airbed, so will need to test the tent with the travel cot.
We're going on holiday in a few weeks to Spain and everyone was telling us we'd need everything but the kitchen sink!!

I know that feeling, the family have said that we shouldn't be taking her to Egypt in November!
