... would you all like to list your "must see" DVD's?
We've dropped our Sky Movies channels (which almost halved our subs!) and joined Blockbusters so we can enjoy "nights at the movies at home"I'm no film buff so it would be nice to have a list of films worth watching.
We've dropped going to the cinema and have joined the Tesco DVD rental scheme after reading the DVD rental scheme review on the MSE home Page. It costs £10 to go the cinema for 2 and we had been going once perhaps even twice a month. Joined Tesco's DVD rental scheme and had a 2 week trial over Christmas and was impressed that the service did deliver quite well over the holidays.
Even better was when I found out 3 months membership is £18.91. Less than 2 trips to the cinema. My husband's watching 'I Robot' as we speak. Not the latest I know, but that's what he wanted! It's great.....no arguing about who's turn it is to choose the DVD,.......whose going to return it to the shop........, whose got the change to pay! Plus I'm saving about 12 miles in petrol money by not going to the shop.
Got to be a winner all round. :T0 -

I don't know if its the same all over the country but my local libraries also let you borrow these films for a whole week too for the same price as other rental shops who only let you have them for a night! They have up to date films too.
If you like Hugh Grant I would thoroughly recommend "The Englishman who went up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain". Its an excellent and funny film and is also a true story set in Wales. Its one of my husband's favourite films too.0 -
This thread ties in with what I bought my kids for christmas, it was a 'Have a nice night in' box. Each box contained popcorn, doritos, dip, malteasers & a dvd of a film they had like when they were younger.

We have movie nights with popcorn and all the extras. I do tape from the telly but they like the 'treat' of going to Blockbusters.
I buy vouchers using Tesco points. I think I pay about £8.50 in points for 12 vouchers. Each voucher can be exchanged for the latest film.
My daughter watched preschool videos at her 18th birthday sleepover - great time had by all. I don't think they watched any of the 18 movies they planned.Love living in a village in the country side0 -

What a fantastic idea. I shall do this for mine (both in their 20s & have their own places) next Christmas.
One thing I do every Christmas is what I call a 'Red Cross Parcel'. Through the year I collect BOGOF shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, coffee, tea, cleaning stuff etc. & they each get a big box of these. Sometimes I think they get more excited about opening this than anything else!!
I started doing it (only half joking) when our daughter left home 'cos I thought once she realised how expensive this stuff is she might want to come back!!0 -
A great film to see if 'Pay it Forward' with Kevin Spacey and Haley Jo Osmond - Greta film - have the hankies ready though - anything with kevin Spacey is definately worth watching. We have a subscription to lovefilm and usually add films going by actors, done all hugh grant, kevin spacey - now doing Tom Cruise..No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:
