... following on from sureeks thread on her "night at the movies at home" with HM popcorn ...
... would you all like to list your "must see" DVD's?
We've dropped our Sky Movies channels (which almost halved our subs!) and joined Blockbusters so we can enjoy "nights at the movies at home"
I'm no film buff so it would be nice to have a list of films worth watching.

Did you know that you can hire videos and dvds from your local library for a week for the price of hiring them for 1 day from a rental shop?

problem i have is that i have done most of the trials with the bigger companies who now seemed to have merged with the smaller ones. i seem to have run out of options.
i was actually thinking about getting rid of the movies and subscribing to a service the other day. lol:love: married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
chardonnay - I thought about the same thing - haven't done it yet (OH is not keen) but I reckon that we would at least get movies that we wanted to watch on a regular basis *and* far sooner after release - for cheaper.. can that be a bad thing?0

Forget hiring DVDs from Blockbuster! You can have 'movie night' much cheaper, (assuming you're not bothered about the latest blockbusters) eg:
- Most people are switching to DVDs so are getting rid of their old video cassettes, hence they are available dirt cheap at charity shops, boot sales etc. Just buy a stack and then donate them to a charity shop when you've seen them.
- Most public libraries have DVDs/videos to hire for very cheap, usually about £1-£2.
- The sunday papers and some magazines occasionally give away free DVDs, I've got Brief Encounter, The Ipcress File and Howards' End all free this way.
- Cheapest of all, keep an eye on the TV schedules, as good films often come on at non peak times, ie late at night or during the daytime. Just tape these and store them up for later viewing when there's nothing on.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
