    Favourite/must see movies:

    The Bourne Identity
    The Bourne Supremacy
    Wimbledon
    Love Actually
    Titanic
    Four Weddings and a Funeral
    Pretty Woman

As you can see I am mostly a chick flick enthusiast:)

If you like romantic comedies then First 50 Dates is excellent! If you don't dislike Hugh Grant then I find the movies he's in are very watchable. An older film that is good is "While you were sleeping" with Sandra Bullock. My husband raves on about "Love Actually" and I love it too. I also like Bridget Jones' Diary and am about to settle down and watch the second one this afternoon!

Another old favourite is Groundhog Day (I could go on forever!)

I have way too many films to recommend (starting with almost everything that Hugh Grant has appeared in :) ) so I thought I'd pass on a couple of tips instead.

Whenever I hear about a film or book that is new to me I check out the details on amazon.co.uk to see if it's something that might appeal to me before I spend time tracking it down to watch/read.

Also, for a 50p fee my local library will buy any new books and films that they don't already have and whoever put in the request gets to borrow them first.
Use words that are soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.

I'm definitely with mrsmab59; I don't buy a film unless I've watched it, enjoyed it, and KNOW I want to watch it again. I think I have 20 DVD's, most of which were gifts.

But I'm lucky in that my OH has a recording DVD, so I have a library of films from the telly to watch, and then if I like them, I'll put them on my wishlist.

Poundstretcher have some brilliant videos and they are only 2 or 3 pounds each which is about the same price as hiring a DVD for the night.

I've just bought Ice Age for £3 and the kids and I are going to have a movie and popcorn night tomorrow.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Yes, we are having a movie night tomorrow too. My son's choice of movie Dukes of Hazzard (hope its not as bad as I have been told!) which we have from our lovefilm two month free trial plus popcorn which was on offer in Morrisons just before Christmas.

... would you all like to list your "must see" DVD's?

We've dropped our Sky Movies channels (which almost halved our subs!) and joined Blockbusters so we can enjoy "nights at the movies at home" :D I'm no film buff so it would be nice to have a list of films worth watching.

something worth mentioning, you may not have one near you but in edinburgh we have quite a few branches of Movie Bank http://www.mb24.co.uk/

you pay money up front (like a bank) and are given an access card so you can go in 24/7 you pay for the dvds, ALL TITLES even new releases in time increments

so if you can get it back within 6 hours it's only 99p! within 12 hours it's £1.99 within 24 hours £2.99 and £2.49 for each additional 24 hour period thereafter

if you live nearby and are disciplined enough to get the movies back on time it can be a real money saver (don't get them on a night when you're tired unless you're willing to pay the extra fee, believe me i know about that )

they also give you bonuses when you first sign up and everytime you top up with certain amounts of money.

    i believe the current is

    £20=£23 credit
    £40=£47 credit
    £60=£75 credit

if you are really really disciplined and take the £60 top up you will be able to watch 75 movies for that price, not a bad deal eh?

i tend to top up when things are good financially (i'm self employed, so my income fluxuates a lot) then use it when we're skint, keeps us from feeling so deprived that way

and the nice thing is you can budget for it easily

right now is a good time to be buying videos from pound stores and charity shops because they are soooo cheap

also at bootsales we can get videos as cheap as 20p each though the norm is about 50p

you can even buy them then sell them on at your next boot sale for what you paid so you get to watch them for free in the long run ;)

problem i have is that i have done most of the trials with the bigger companies who now seemed to have merged with the smaller ones. i seem to have run out of options.
