Jjef... Some people say bulging disks aren't quite slipped... But the effect is the same. I have two that I am now Lucky enough to be able to ignore thanks to years of learning to manage them and gettting fir the right way. Whether exercise works does depend on where they are (mine are L4 and L5 and there was no way I was having surgery in the early 90s, thankfully it is much, much more sophisticated and successful now).
Pain is usually caused by the bulging disk pressing on the nerve OR muscle pain from compensating to avoid the nerve pain. If this is new, then it is likely to be the former. If it is muscle pain stuff like tens, alternate ice and hot water bottles and massage may provide relief. If it's the nerve then it's more about getting your brain to combat it which takes a long time but lots of chronic pain sufferers are very good at pain management through visualisation, meditation etc.
Has he been given advice on how to sleep? If he needs to sleep on his side, a pillow between the knees can often help. It takes pressure off the spine by raising the top knee and can help you keep still. It might also help tim to have a pillow in front of his chest to support his top arm, and encourage im to tilt forward slightly, taking the pressure off his hip. It would probably be useful for him to learn to turn itself with his arms... There is a knack to it... Keep still, concentrate on working out where everything is and lift up with your arms while you drag your legs to where you want them. It's hard work and frustrating but beats getting help all the time.
Hope this helps... Shout if you have any other questions of the how to cope/do stuff kind. He should be less frustrated if he can do the odd thing for himself.0 -
greenbee thank you for all the advice he has had back problems for nearly 20years - rugby playing injuries - and up until 2 months ago the chiropractor was able to manipulate what ever was wrong, it worsened in June and has been extremely bad for the last 5 weeks, he has had some physio in the last couple of weeks but it seems to be making things worse rather than better not sure what discs it is lower back is where the pain is, his consultant said on friday that is was a big one and as it has been sore for so long and physio not working then he will probably need an op - he cant stand up straight at the moment is about 3/4 of the way there reminds me of a man of 90 not 40!!
Ok enough internet for me I must make headway in the bedroom0 -
Hi all.
Just doing a quick catch-up on what's happening in FlyladyLand.;)
Triker OMG how absolutely dreadful! :eek:I'm speechless. My best wishes to your DD1 and her BF, and hope he makes a very swift recovery. *Invokes Nemesis on the scumbags involved *
Jinky *waves * nice to see you!
Hoppy Birdday Neveah:bdaycake:
Jojo Brilliant win! Well done you!:T:beer:
Valli your fur-guest sounds lovely:o *considers diversifying into rabbit-sitting, ferret-sitting, chicken-sitting...... * Nah, maybe not, Mr LW would have blue kittens!:rotfl:
Valli/Jojo/Embb there are loads of eligible young farmers to be found in one of our favourite pubs – best time is on a Friday evening. :oDon't leave it too late on though, or they'll be half-way down the 2nd Sambuca bottle, and no use to man nor beast.;):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Jjef I feel your pain – and that of your DH.:( I often have to get Mr LW to aid me during the night, specially if I need to get up to go to the loo. Luckily, he seems to have acquired an ability to do what's required without properly waking up, iyswim. :oHope your DH gets on well with his visit to the neuro.:o
Good division of labour here.... Ted doesn't like the vacuum, so I get to take him in the garden and play Tug-o-war with him, while Mr LW dances with Mr Dyson.:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Sorry BD crept in as soon as I came home, suppose that might be a sign I dot like being home and my hovel depresses me....hmm. Anyway back away tomorrow so I've done some stuff today. DS1 has helped by clearing the contents of the table and DP managed to throw one of his tantrums and threw the rest all over the room, at the telephone table etc including the chairs so that meant more needed cleaning up. He's a bit worse today as he's trying to stop smoking, again, he'll do this until I buy him some usually.
Ok next, need to defluff the condenser and clear at least one kitchen bench then pack some stuff, off to work I go...One day I might be more organised...........

Right - I am either going to apply second coat of paint or clean and clear the bathroom. While the steps are up there I may give the tiles a washdown.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

JoJo, some of the garden centres round this way do pretty candles and ornaments and a few household bits as well as garden stuff. I sense a huge spending spree coming on for youdo they have an expirey date? if not you could save some for the next year or two to stock up on pretty summer plants for the next couple of years.

Wardrobe is a mess, door aren't right and won't hang right so i've contacted the catalouge and they'll contact the supplier. Second wardrobe hasn't been opened so is going back. I'd say i'm down £200 as i can't see the supplier doing anything....:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
My mum was up and my dad sent up half his veg patch, he must think i'm starving or something. He rang this morning which is weird because he never rings. He tried the mobile first and thank goodness he didn't get through as it was KH's number. Mum said anything i need there just on the other end of the phone, so that was good.
Dinner now on and i'll just be doing bits of flying tonight and i might even get my hair done.Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough. And things go wrong no matter what I do.Now and then it seems that life is just too much. But you've got the love I need to see me through.:j :j0 -

Hi - I hope you don't mind me butting in... I know someone who is also starting this course in October. If you or Mummyroysof3 have any comments or dos or don'ts then that would be very helpful for her.
