Two ways to get the government to spend taxpayers money in your area:

    Riot, or vote BNP.

Maybe if the courts would give young criminals long prison sentences rather than a community supervision order things would be different.

Looks like they all can change their tops for tonight after looting hundreds of hoodies from JD Sports (Criminal clothing mega store inc).

    I have the same feelings

    But about the MET.

you think we should let all those "gangstas" just shoot each other?

everyone criticises the police at times, but they do uphold law and order.

    Nope.

I think the Met should be disbanded & replaced with something that is functional.

i think the way we should deal with the situation is build a massive prison and throw all those "gangstas" inside.

or failing that put all the "gangstas" on a remote island somewhere and let rich tourists hunt them down.

we should also start putting blame where it lies. lots of areas are poor, they don't start rioting though.

Things have changed since the 1980s when we could blame nasty racist police and Thatcher for everything. Most blacks hate the gangster thugs who are ruining certain areas of London. Instead of self loathing and asking what we can do differently, we need to be asking certain communities what they want to do about the problems in their midst.

I also feel sorry for the poor people that have lost their jobs in the shops that were burnt down, no one has even given them a mention, they probably have mortgages and bills to pay.

I wont knock the black community, I am white and live on the Isle of Wight but I was born and raised in Walthamstow, East London and I am fortunate to have many lovely black friends ( and friends of other nationalities). It is just a few that make things bad for the rest of them and there are those few in all other cultures too.

I wont knock the Met Police either, they were brilliant at handling the situation when my purse was stolen in Primark, Oxford Street last November, they caught the thieves and sent my purse back to me and kept me up to date on the sentencing of the thieves.

despite my thread mentioning race I am positive this is NOT a racial issue. It just has symptoms of that.

    No.

The problem starts before the courts are involved in most cases. Disrespect to teachers. Disrespect to people in the street, in shops in businesses. Also, failure to acknoledge when disrespect hasn't taken place, encouraging positive interaction, stamping on the negative....its the fault of ALL of us who don't step up to smile at kids, and who don't step up to tick them off when they are just a bit naughty.

sentencing is too leniant....or rather some sentences are seen as them (with out fail clients have said ''thanks for getting me off/my son off when given a community service order)

i agree it's a cultural issue. some cultures in london do seem to have a problem with guns/ drugs/ crime.
