I think its an illness, they cant cope but wont accept help. Its quite sad and not really down to the agent. I bet in all that mess there is some good stuff.
I agree - illness has been the reason for several cases like this in my family and you can't make people accept help and often they can be actively obstructive to people trying. When my parents cleared out my uncles flat after he died (which was worse than this by a long way) they found all sorts of high-end electrical stuff, expensive things, camera equipment, gadgets, computers - a lot of it had never been opened. He was in his early fifities when he died, had usually worked, was outwardly reasonably normal. It wasn't a lack of coping either, it was just the way he was.
It doesn't take long for it to get like this either. Seriously, my grans house would be back like this in a matter of weeks. cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

How far from the uni is it? My daughter only had 6 lectures a week (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so didn't have to go there often. Unbelievable I know.
Oh totally. The Unversity of Bristol is located in Clifton, probably the most expensive area of the city. I suppose Westbury is 3/4 miles away (which I know is that far) but if you were going to be 3/4 miles away there are way, way more affordable areas of the city. Westbury isn't a very student oriented area, but you never know!0 -
The ornaments, especially the old bed-warmer in the hallway, don't square with what landlords normally give students!
Lots of interesting ideas here, both about students and the elderly. Mental health issues strike at any age. A guy died near me recently and his house would probably have been as bad as this if he'd had more than a couple of months there. He was a year short of pension age, yet had clocks everywhere, the big button phone and notepads with messages to himself in all the rooms.
Anyway, it's potentially a nice property in a good area, and if it could be secured for around £240-250k, the price would be about right too, I'd imagine.0 -

No, some people just choose to live like that. They're not ill - just slobs! There are plenty of student houses which look very similar by the end of term.0 -
Viewed a house like this, it was a repo, let out, and the agent told me that there were 10 people living in that house at one point.
It was so dirty my dog peed inside and the agent laughed and he said "he probably thinks he's outside". Btw, I took my dog with me as I knew it would be empty.0 -
I think it's someone with mental health problems who lived with an elderly parent all their life, who has since passed away, and is now moving out as it is clearly too much for them to manage- sad really. I agree with Cel, it's surprisng how quickly things can degenerate!0

Yes, this or something similar. Perhaps there is no one to take responsibilty for the house.
If it is a student house then you would think their landlord wouldn't want pictures like this on the website.
The thing I find most strange is that the EA has put the pictures up. I have seen many houses which need doing up that just have the front of the house and nothing more.
I have looked at some of the other houses for sale by this EA and they certainly aren't following anything but the norm.
Conclusion has to be that the owner has decided to show it warts and all and 'persuade' someone that it is a bargain.
Most peculiar. Might give the EA a ring on Monday and find out! :rotfl:0 -
Cheered me up though whatever the circumstances - looks well...."lived in"!0

This is the sort of house that you wipe your feet when you leave:rotfl:To Dare is To Do:beer:0
