Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 6th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Look like we are due more rain today, not too much I hope as there are a couple of jobs hubby want's to do in the garden.
OS today will mainly consist of loading & un loading the WM & DW. I'm feeling a bit stressed at the moment as it seems hubby's family aren't speaking to us, it seems to be my fault I said something at my wedding that was out of place, ooops.
Still it's happened before & will happen again I'm sure. Last time is was because I told them about something that happened at a WI quilting day, there was a discussion about the difference between 6inch & 9inch quilting gaps, somebody suddenly realised that the conversation sounded rude & we all got a fit of the giggles, I repeated this in mixed company & we were ignored for 6 months, deep joy!
I'm gradually gathering everything for our holiday, not that we're taking much as it's only for 4 days, but it should be a good break.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone. Harduphester, it was your wedding and if they can't have a giggle then !!!!!! 'em, they'll calm down soon like you say.
Best wishes to dazi's DS today. Hope the wedding went well jackieg and that bitsy had a good night out
Anyone see aurora borealis last night? It was too cloudy here, gutted.

I'm with my folks for a few days and have loads to do, currently doing an acid peel whilst packing up ebay items to post. Then for a quick trawl around the bargain shops- trips to home bargains, wilko and aldi are a must when I'm in brum.
Main task of the weekend is packing. I have a new appreciation for packing/living light as i've survived out of a weekend holdall for a month and plan to prune my possessions big time. Just as well as my new place is much smaller and I have a jungle of plants to take
My Mum's come up trumps and is letting me borrow her walking boots for my holiday to Wales, our feet are exactly the same ship so they're perfect. My news are just too painfully stiff for a mountain-a-day!

Also need to plan a few more things for the holiday and round up some cracking recipes for flapjacks, rocky road and protein brownies as OH wants to cook loads to take on holiday. I can't wait to be doing the GC, using the SC and batch cooking full time again :j

OOOF well that's it! Hugs to all who need them x

Adelight - where in Wales are you off to?

Moving day is here  wish me luck!

I'll likely be MIA for up to 2 weeks cos that's as long as it'll take to put internet in new place (how I don't know!!). If I can find my dongle then I'll use that. But I'll be on FB.

    Have a good weekend all

    Morning everyone

Dry, cloudy but sun trying to peek through the clouds. DH now in the bath as he is going to a site meeting regarding the big charity rally being held in September. So I'll get the morning to myself - well that's a nice thought, but my new greenhouse arrived yesterday so when he gets back he and FIL are going to get it built, so he and MIL will be staying for dinner, so need to pop out this morning and get another chicken and more potatoes as hadn't planned/budgeted for extra mouths to feed, but be nice to have greenhouse built and company for dinner. May buy/make something for dessert too.

Have a small pile of ironing to do, so must get that done as it includes all my work clothes for Monday.

We're going tomorrow to finalise the menu for the other big rally in September - so quite a busy weekend. I can't believe how quickly the weeks are going, DH is working next Sat morning and we're away at a new local site, then the following Saturday we go on our holiday - woop woop can't wait now starting to feel like we all need some time away!

Did really well with my GC shopping budget yesterday but just need to purchase extras for tonights dinner - but won't cost lots. Need to crack on have a great weekend everyone.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning all :)

I haven't had a chance to catch up on the threads latetly so am just sending big (((hugs))) out there to anyone who wants/needs em :grouphug: `

WM and DW on, beds made, e-mails answered, kitchen s&s'd and cup of tear drunk :) I'm sat in garden ... it's cool but not raining ... just enjoying being outside :) I was up at about 10 last night cooking mince that needed to be used up so that's the next 3 days worth of food done :p We are going to a friends 40th bbq later so will not need to cook this afternoon. Will do kids JP's for lunch n save myself for the bbq. Tomorrow will do a shepherds pie n then mince and pasta for lunch on Monday.

A family friend kindly said that he would come and cut my grass and do my hedges today :T It's so overgrown and I'd been dreading doing it - it's threatening rain but I'm hoping it'll hold off long enough for him to get it done. I'm still planning what to do with the back half of the garden and want to make the most of it but it needs to be quick and easy!! I'd like to get a chicken coup, bird table, bench and water feature/pond out there on one side and then the other can be for the kids trampoline etc ...

I'm going to spend some time going through my £'s s/sheet and then draft the letters to creditors asking them to stop interest  Fingers crossed :D

Hope everyone has a great weekend x

Good morning HHester, Adelight and all who follow - and everyone else who posted after I first read, but before I posted!!!

I too wish Dazi a lovely day x
FB - hope the move goes smoothly x
BB - the park is lovely. I haven't been for a few years. Used to go when the children were young. Hope you have a great day and the weather's good for you x

Going to L1dl soon, hoping for some bargains :)

Dinner today will be from the freezer to make space for DH's hm salsa:)
Got some ideas but not sure if we will be just the two of us eating or if we will be seven. I do know DD2 will not be eating with us.

Overcast and looks like rain, so will busy ourselves inside after shopping.
Happy Saturday folks with {{{{hugs}}}} for all those who need or want.
    Cheers, Silver x

Have a load of washing in and hope to get it on the line while the weather is dry.

DS lost his bank card yesterday but phoned me from town so I cancelled it for him straight away, so he has to go into the branch today to order a new card.
Barclays automatically order a new card while you are on the phone but Halifax doesn't ??????

Then DH was shouting and screaming last night because he couldn't find his car keys and had to pick DD up from work, only to find that the silly old s*d had locked them in the car, luckily it is a hatchback and DS managed to crawl in open it for him.

    Lou...... Illegitimis non carborundum :D

Dazi I hope that today goes well and that the rain stays away x

    JackieG... C'mon share :D x

Well I am off to have a quick shower and then have to pop down to town

    Have good days all x
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Flutterby - Good luck with the move.
Dazi - Enjoy the big day!

Well, Tallinn is a fantastic place. Very chilled and relaxed, the streets are beautiful, people great and the weather was fantastic - not a cloud in the sky the whole time we were there. I would definitely go back some time.

Got everything washed and dried yesterday, just need to do the ironing today. The house was in reasonable shape when I got home, I think DD was at work most of the time I was away, she was given some evening shifts too.

Got baking to do today as there is a duck race on tomorrow for the village hall. Need to look in the freezer for inspiration for tea. Had toad in the hole last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Have a good Saturday all, take care. XX

    Morning all

LOU your family sound like a nightmare, have a hug.

Spent most of yesterday trying to keep busy and making phonecalls to social services and the police. The more we find out the worse it gets. Don't know why the police are taking so long to arrest this person as they have loads of evidence.

Also I think my Aunt has dementia, it's very early days, but the signs are there. Am trying to stay calm. I need to go up to London and see her GP and set the assessment process going, also I want to talk to my Aunt about moving closer to me so I can look after her. I don't really want my elderly parents doing this, my Mum is devastated. Although my sister lives closer, her reaction would be to put her in a home. May be I'm stupid taking all this on but she's family and I was always brought up to look after your own. My sister has a bit of a funny husband who doesn't share the same belief.

Work as usual were really unsympathetic as we no longer get carers leave. The way I feel at the moment they can stick the job up thier !!!!!

Sorry to moan folks. At least keeping busy is productive, made cakes and bread yesterday.

Have a good day all, hoping all weddings go well.

    Jan x
