In fairness they can charge what they like and it depends on the interconnect agreement, Lyca mobile I always see advertised promoting international call rates, perhaps it is an offshore company or simply not classed in the same ofcom number allocation.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
That I don't disagree with. However, I was just pointing out the...almost a slap in the face, if you will, that they don't class them as UK mobiles, but charge you for calling a UK mobile.
See post #19 , hopefully that may give light on why the charges went on and at a UK rate, instead of being deducted from the inclusive mnutes.0 -
No other network has this restriction on LycaMobile and one way around it is to port a "Big 5" number onto your LycaMobile sim. Madness!
What would happen if you ported a LycaMobile number onto T-Mobile? How would they then treat same-network calls?
Also, only mobile numbers can be ported like this with a PAC code, so LycaMobile *is* defined as a mobile network in the eyes of OFCOM.
Dodgy ground there, T-M.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Part of the T-mobile site reads
What's a UK mobile call?- This is a call made within the UK to a mobile number allocated to a customer of what's called a national UK GSM cellular network - more commonly known as a mobile network. At the moment, the national GSM cellular networks in the UK belong to Hutchison 3G, O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile. Calls to one of the mobile operators exclusively using numbers allocated to these networks (eg Virgin, Tesco, Fresh) are treated the same.
- There are some newer networks whose customers have a telephone number starting with 07, but which aren't treated as a UK mobile call (or text) for the purpose of allowances, Boosters and rewards (or any other bundle of inclusive services) on any pay as you go, SIM only or pay monthly plan. This means that calls or texts to some numbers starting with 07 aren't treated as UK mobile calls or texts. These include (but may not be limited to) some numbers beginning with the following sequences:
But Lyca exclusively use O2 and Orange?0 -
They use the masts (signal), not the numbers.0
-
If that's the case it would seem these charges are completely unenforceable.0
-
Why? They are perfectly enforceable if the excluded numbers are explicitly listed in the T&C that you accepted.0
