I know that it is on a 1970s estate, but the trees have had a chance to reach a level of maturity, and there are grass verges. All in all, it looks like quite a nice place to live, even if it is horribly suburban.
I have never seen an extension like that, either, but I cannot see any particular reason why it should not work.
