Well... Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau is retro, just by 120 years or so rather than 40. And they are hugely popular styles now so you will hardly be alone in your choice; whereas in the 1940's they were so unfashionable that many, many examples were simply thrown away - hence the rarity of original items now. The same thing happened (and continues to happen) with subsequent style movements such as Art Deco (my personal favourite) and Bauhaus in the 30's and continues to this day.

Getting back to the theme of this thread, if you like A&C then you might be interested to see that this property has been reduced (again)

I'm very disappointed there isn't an avocado corner bath.

With a little de-orangeification it could be a nice bright house without losing its 'period' feel.

Correction - sunken avocado corner bath :D

There must be something from every decade in that house. My particular favourite feature is the toilet roll holder on the side of the turquoise bath.

I wonder if the toilet was once where the bidet is now so the toilet roll holder would have been easier to reach?

Guess so, although I tend to refer to something 120 years old as 'antique' rather than 'retro', lol!

Mmmmm very nice - although hate the bedroom in pic 4 - would especially love the stained glass windows by Burne-Jones :D Our last house was Tudor with later Arts & Crafts additions that suited our furniture and other *stuff* of the period perfectly......only a shame it was in a not-so-nice part of Essex :o

I can't remember the last time I saw one of those drink bars they've got in the lounge/hall area!

And the alsatian picture in 8/21 is a classic. And nicely faded too.

A ceramic tiled floor in the lounge? That must be cosy on a winter's evening!

It has under floor heating, it will bankrupt you if you turn it on again in the evening after charging it up overnight on nuclear electricity

Would that be postal Essex or legal Essex ?
