I am in awe of the shopping talent in that household.

Where did they find an avocado shower curtain to match that shower and tiles? 13/21 It's too shiny to be old, it's got to be relatively new!

The blue bathroom is brilliant too. 15/21

I love it! Even the external features are retro.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...
  • When I said "truly beautiful features", it was originally meant to be pure sarcasm, but in hindsight, and bearing in mind it's now 2012, actually ... yes ... you're right, it's reasonably impressive.

I particularly hate the lava lamp inset into the dark brown tiles fire breast. In fact I hate the entire place, and couldn't possibly imagine living there ... but even so hats off to them for the achievement.

It is 1964 and ahead of its time design wise. I grew up in a 1954 house that dad built for £3k.;) I remember the winter of 62/63:eek: Those railings are the instant give away and absolutely lethal, my little sister and I used to climb through to the outside and wave at mum and dad; but they never did anything about them - elf and safety would go apoplectic with the architect these days.
Truly the end of the evolutionary branch line; snuffed out by rising population and carbon induced climate change. Environmental impact 29/100
The energy assessor in 2011 (!!!) claims that someone has stuffed that huge dormy roof with 250 mm of insulation - Do you believe him ? (it could have been done by taking all the tiles off and putting trays of "Celotex" on the rafters and then putting the tiles back).
I sold a Victorian house where the certificate said 75mm in actual fact if was 2/3rds 25mm and 1/3 nothing at all. There seems to be no gas in the road. unless it can be upgraded to a real "D" it does not qualify for the carbon subsidies - logically someone thinks it should be bulldozed ready to start again.
[Shame about the plot, it is "only" 1/8th of an acre, so knocking it down and building a one for one but something bigger for those two into one divorcee families would:
    1. Probably not be allowed in this setting?
    2. Look like over-development to a potential buyer with £600k to spend?
If it were inside the M25 it would be worth a punt.]

(Unless you want to huddle round those "Economy 7" radiators in the day light; it is back to living in something with the thermal properties of a cave and suffering from rickets - the regulations are having problems understanding windows facing South)

It should be listed and bought for the Nation - like this one:
    9k=images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR-wNhmKjBpMesPpjWbpRQPL1RGTmTZeyHrfjZfYKz0jSZ3GWRAPAimages?q=tbn:ANd9GcQMvdjNiUF4HfFvppwDX-1Ckx3gUXFVujmlpa2AGyNhXWGvu-xl

Fully booked for visitors until next summer; when it will be a lovely experience for at least 6 months..

  • John_Pierpoint (or anyone else who can answer in fact....)

What exactly is this "carbon subsidies" position that you say a house has to be at least D rating for please? (better find out before I put any further effort into getting a band E house I have my eye on).

Greed in tariff payments for PV panels on the roof.
Renewable Heat Incentive payments after installing expensive new heating systems capable of creating sustainable heat.

Thanks folks for the £1,500 you have paid me since last March, I feel like a land owner at last.

Between you and me - I think it is still possible to "fiddle" an "E" into a "D" by arguing that it is now a "D" or better because of the improved system. However the argument is that you should be spending 100s on improving the insulation before fellow citizens pay you 1,000s for installing a "better" heating system,

I have left the typo because I though my fingers had cracked a good joke.
