Totally OT: Just noticed this picture of a billionaire at the bottom of the page. How the other half live! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2171536/Eva-Rausing-death-TetraPak-wife-dead-week-bedroom-London-mansion.html?ICO=most_read_moduleNo reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
How the other half live!
Or indeed die!0 -
This one looks nice enough at first glance:

However, there are a few things to be aware of.
1)There is a well in the cellar. It has water in it.
2)Part of the cellar is underneath the neighbour's house. We viewed this house and the neighbour's house. The neighbour said that had they stayed longer in the house, then they were going to try and dig down to find the cellar, as they were certain it had one, but they couldn't find the entrance. :eek:0 -
Oh I do hope the owners read this!0

Am I the only one who doesn't find any of that particularly unusual in a property of that age? Except maybe for the neighbour digging in the hope of finding a cellar, although stranger things have happened.0 -

The well is an issue, as it's not marked on the floorplan (it was for previous sales) so it could well have been hidden away. The water level was quite high when we saw it - just a few inches below the surface.
The cellar under the neighbour's property could be a big problem if they don't have permission to own it. Certainly the people in the house above didn't realise they had permission to own it. Plus won't there be issues with a flying freehold?0 -

I wouldn't see the water in a well in a cellar as a particular problem, I bet there are loads of cellars below the water table, the well is a sign that this one is above it.
As for the rest, it all depends what the deeds say, but the cellar almost certainly dates to before the property was a house, it may have been a pub or a workshop at some time.0 -

Or at some point they dug in to next door's cellar and pilfered some of it. They'll have a shock if someone next door ever does start to investigate where their cellar is.
The old pub is across the square (flats now I think) and these were all houses as far as we can work out. We looked at 3 on the same square.0 -
