You can buy my house for £2.3 million...

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-58809883.html

...but you can't live in it for five years.

Marvellous, so you save a chunk of stamp duty costs on the purchase price, but presumably you'll cop for a load extra anyway as you won't be able to reclaim the extra 3% you'll be paying on the purchase price because you can't move in for 5 years. And you'd be paying 40% tax on the rental income if you went down that route.

    Madness IMO.

I'm just wondering how the conversation in that house went before they came up with an off the wall "how to sell it" idea like that.

Maybe something along the lines of "We seriously need some capital now and can't think of a way to get any" - followed by "Well - if we're moving to our country home in 5 years time and planning on selling this house then anyway = wonder if we can release some capital now and still have our house for the 5 years we want it?"

Might have worked when prices were rising and the market was white hot. But I bet the agent was inwardly groaning, knowing that kind of super rich buyer is not going to hang around for five years. Is it legally enforceable? Would normal rental laws allow for eviction, for example if they didn't look after the place?
    Been away for a while.

I'd ask Lewis Lovelle. He looks like a hairdresser, rather than an EA.

Mind you he knows the right sort of people: nudge, nudge, wink, wink....say no more! ;)

Been googling how to purchase a derelict hotel...

I can't stop thinking about it... shame those grand design and restoration man tv shows don't show you have to get the funding to achieve such a thing...
Lots of people have tried and failed. PP has been granted for a number of different schemes over the years but none have got further than that It was sold to the current "developers" by an insolvency company when the previous owners went bankrupt which is probably a portent of things to come. There are major restrictions on what you can do to it as it is Grade II listed due to it being "a substantial early C19 villa retaining early character and detail", has major problems with access to the A487 (which, of itself, will cost a considerable sum to fix) and has even become a known* site as a bat roost.

    * In the real world, "known" can be a lot more expensive to sort out than "unknown".

If you still want to chase your rainbows though, it's probably best to do some searches around the phrases "chalky pachyderm purchasing", "buying a pig in a poke", "money pit", "bargepole" and "bubble bursting."

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.
