What a shame. A beautiful 1800's house and so dull and characterless now that the refurbishment is done. From the inside it could be a bog-standard 1960s council flat. Awful.0 -

That's one of the things I notice about the majority of houses that I see for sale. They all look so tidy and a bit bland. But where are the books?
I still have loads, despite taking over 20 boxes to the Charity shop in an effort to de-clutter. There still are several boxes of books I'm keeping making the place look untidy and cluttered.
I feel exhausted with it all but just hope that viewers will think "The seller's already packed up ready to move!"0 -

Go to someone's home that works or has worked in libraries and they have loads of books My mum worked in libraries on/off for 31 years. My parents before they moved had 6 of these and two of these crammed with books. I think book that filled one large and a small one went to charity shops and donated to libraries for their local collections.
My friend on the other hand has just 12 cookery books and Rod Stewart's auto biography.
I have seen people's lounges and adult child's bedrooms on various listings with bookcases crammed with DVD boxsets. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Most people don't seem to have books. I took loads to charity shops and my local library before going on the market, and also have about 2 dozen boxes full of books in the cupboard under the stairs while I was selling. That got me to the point that the only books on show were in bookcases..All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

The thing is, a lot of modern places don't have much space for books and when you are selling you know that space sells. So instead of leaving your groaning bookshelves and teetering book piles in view you box them up and hide them from the camera.
Of course, a real bibliophile would buy a property that could accommodate their books as well as themselves: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-42842287.html
SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0 -

I have some books which I cannot part - presents bought from now deceased relatives and rare books, but as they so heavy and cumbersome, they are at my parents' home.
I think we should do 'spot the bookcases' like we do with cats, dogs, giraffes etc on this thread...
