Just had a google, and surprise, surprise, its the site of an old poultry farm, so they presumably were only granted planning if the houses looked like the poultry sheds they replaced.

Ooh, my first flat had one of those before I moved in. It was removed because being gas, it was likely to be unsafe. Good job really, as I wouldn't have had anywhere for the washing machine otherwise. (The kitchen was about 6' x 4' and only had room for the sink unit and cooker.)0 -
