When I bought my current house, (NOT a repo) the sellers took all the lightbulbs, removed and took all the curtain poles (leaving big holes in he walls) and dumped their old fridge in the garden *without removing the food which had been in it when it broke down* (and it had stopped working about 3 weeks before completion, and I moved in late May in a warm spring...)
They clearly hadn't *ever* cleaned the oven - I think they must never have cooked anythign except pizza- there was a heap of carbonized cheese and who knows what else in the bottom of the cooker which was about 4 inches tall at it's peak. They also ripped out a carpet which was supposed to be included in the sale, leaving the carpet grippers (?) (Those little upwards-facing spiky boards..)
They who were outraged when they had to pay for the cost of their various breaches of contract!!
Mercifully, I had been staying temporarily with my parents and had planned to get some rewiring and redecorating done before I moved in, so at least I wasn't on the doorstep with a removal van when I discovered that one of the bedrooms was unihabitable.
The less said about the level of cleanliness in the house when I got the keys, the better. (the downside of a Dyson is that you can *see* just how much crud is coming up off the floors!)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
We bought a repo where they'd taken all the kitchen cupboard doors and were starting on the skirting boards when the mortgage co took it back.
Not as good as the 1st repo we bought as a btl. There used to be a single glazed door to the garden from the living room which they had plastered over. And left the door and frame in situ on the outside :rotfl:. Lovely little local kids had climbed into the garden, broken the glass and punched holes into the living room . I may have instructed my builder to climb into the garden and brick it up before we'd even exchanged .A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

My last house was like that. They took the light fittings, all the curtain rails and even left holes all over the garden where they dug up and took all the rose bushes and plants!
When I moved in here they had taken light fittings, curtain rails, ripped out all the phone sockets, of which there were many - even one next to the loo  They also took the garden gates, loft boarding and airing cupboard shelves (which I still haven't got round to replacing, 17 years later). Must have cost them a fortune to be so petty, as according to the neighbours, they had a removal service that packed everything!

Why did they take things like shelves to the airing cupbaord and loft boards? I somehow doubt they would fit in their property they were moving into!
My parents' former neighbours took their water butt with them when they moved. My dad saw his former neighbour about a week after they moved in B&Q buying a water butt. Turns out the former neighbour had to buy a narrow one as the one they removed was too wide for the recess between the house and the fence:rotfl::rotfl::D:DThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. I would be interested to hear your feedback on this property as a rental. It is in a popular rental area outside of town but with good road links. ThanksStarted comping February 2012

I had one that took all the door furniture, the window keys, the lightbulbs and the outside bins and left a broken stinking dishwasher
I've posted about this before, but we once made an eBay purchase from someone that was having their flat (top floor in a large Victorian house) repossessed and when DH turned up to collect said piece of furniture, not only the doors, skirting & rads, but also all the floorboards had been removed (and apparently also sold on the bay) by the couple that were awaiting repo......they had to manhandle this bulky item whilst negotiating the joists :eek:Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

It looks really good to me. Nice inside - nothing needs doing, reasonable garden, end of terrace, no upward chain.0 -

Up-together. No obvious down-sides. Easy rental, especially to MoD staff, I'd think.
Have to be especially careful about areas in Stafford, but you'll know better than me about those.0 -

Presumably they like it. Wouldn't be my choice, but then I've never gone for pink negligees either.
I once heard a couple, in dispute with their neighbours, painted their house a very violent shade of bright green.
Whether the story is true or apochryphal I can't say, but it could be clearly seen well over a mile away and I used to laugh every time I saw it.0
