Cashplus prepaid card no fees what so ever when used abroad.

So this beats even using Halifax clarity card abroad?

Unless I'm missing something.....

Maybe it sounds to good to be true but I ordered mine yesterday and I'm hoping to get it before my month long trip on the continent.

It's promoted here on moneysupermarket. It wasn't listed on Money saving expert as recommended for travel last time I checked.

.moneysupermarket.com/prepaidcards

you have to add the w's and http things in front of that because as a new user I can't post links.

Maybe I'm hallucinating or something?

-but no ATM s fees abroad
-No foreign exchange commission
-Possibly none of that "loading" thingy as well!

and initial fee is refunded if you add/top up over a certain amount if I remember correctly.

It's only for the first three months so just cancel it after that period.

Please be gentle with me, this is my first post and my eyes are rather bleary from booking train tickets, youth hostels etc etc etc and etc again on the internet!

I just thought I would bring this one >UP!<

T&Cs state a foreign transaction fee of 2.99%. So nowhere near as good as the Clarity - even before all the other charges kick in after 3 months.
  • Well its says on the money supermarket site "Plus there are no currency exchange fees for the first 3 months, so you won’t pay the normal 2.99% FX rate you’d pay with most debit or credit cards! "

Is that the same thing you are talking about here or a different charge?

I'm trying to find cashplus's T and C on their site, no luck yet.

Ah yes, you could be right in that the T&Cs may reflect the situation after the first 3 months. But it seems a lot of hassle for something that's only good value for 3 months - why not open a MetroBank account or similar, which gives the same value but for the long term.

As usual with these things to see the T&Cs you need to click the Apply button on the site, then there's a link to the T&Cs.
  • I've just found this as well.

After clicking on the proceed link for moneysupermarket which takes you on to the cashplus site

    "Exclusive offer for moneysupermarket.com customers...
To qualify for this exclusive offer and receive a refund for your set up fee of £4.95, simply load at least £250.00, within 31 days of paying your initial fees on the account. This special offer runs until the 20th August 2011!"

I'll be trying to get clarification of this once I get the card.

It's so easy for a claim to be made saying one thing and then computer/electronic charges added contradicting what you thought was a good deal. Yes it's banking!
  • I don't know much about metro bank but I'll investigate, thanks.

It was fairly easy to apply and be approved for the card all that remains to be seen is whether this really is as good as it seems. If I get evidence that it's not going to be then I'll just have to go for a prepaid card I can collect from somewhere as time is running out.

    Don't waste your time....
    What’s Activeplus?

Activeplus is a pay monthly pricing plan. You pay a small, flat monthly fee and that’s only when you have money in your account, or when you use the card. You can then enjoy unlimited purchase transactions over the internet, phone and in-store; anywhere in the world where you see the MasterCard acceptance mark.

So after the three months, the £4.95 per month and the other ridiculous fees kick in

    T&Cs here

Perhaps you can use the cards for a couple of months and then cancel it. Look at the cancellation conditions.

In addition, some of the info on MoneySupermarket is just wrong. So, use it as a guide, but do your own research.
  • Yeah my plan is just to cancel before anything gets charged so lets just see if this will be as good as it seems.

There is mention of a cancellation fee for accounts less than 12 months old but I think it may just relate to getting money back of the card although I'm not 100 % on that.

    The fee is £10.

I have used a Cashplus card years ago for spending mostly online when I didn't have a good credit rating and a basic account. I had no problems bar one time when the card would not work in a restaurant as they had some sort of system error.

I will though definitely report back here to let people know how I get on with it.

I'll certainly be querying and questioning them over the phone before I put any money on it and take it abroad with me.

I think they only have branches in London. There are a couple of other accounts - N&P and someone else - but they have strings such as needing to deposit a certain amount every month in the current account. See the article on the main site.
