Fine at Morrisons

Options
I parked my husband's car and when I returned I had a ticket for not parking correctly within the bay. I may have been slightly over the line but it was not a bay which caused an obstacle to any other motorist's parking. The ticket said the car had been seen at 11.30am and the fine attached at 12.30. But I was at my house over 1 mile away and was accepting mail from the postman at 11.45. They want £100 or £60 for a quick payment. The car was not being driven by my husband who is the owner. I am worried. Shall I pay up?:(

I know you are worried but - it's simple - of course you don't pay a scammer and it's NOT a 'FiNE'!

Read some other threads, there's so much info about private parking companies (PPCs). Ignore their bogus 'tickets' and be ready to laugh at and file away the 'scary letters' that will follow this bogus PCN. See the important top thread 'PPC letters' for preview pics of the letter-chains and go to the thread called 'welcome, please read before posting' for the must-see Watchdog paper aeroplane youtube link:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163

Most of us here have ignored these fake PCNs, whether from a supermarket or McDonalds car parks or where-ever.

Basically any 'ticket' that calls itself a 'parking charge notice' is a fake; real PCNs are called 'penalty charge notices'. It's simple to tell the difference even though some of the fakes look legit and they may have a photo of your car on (big wow!) and are followed by scary letters, it doesn't make them any more enforceable than, say, a made-up £50 'charge' from me, for anyone reading this reply.

I ignored a fake PCN 3 years ago and would happily collect more just to cost the scammer PPCs some more money in postage with their pathetic threatogram letter-chain. I always use supermarket car parks and the driver of my car sometimes overstays (oh dear) but sadly the PPCs have never yet graced my windscreen with any more of their pointless bogroll 'tickets'.

HTH now calm down and do some reading of the threads on that link, starting with 'PPC letters' and 'welcome...etc.' with the Watchdog link. :)

Once you understand this is a scam despite it's appearance of a 'parking ticket' you might like to write a letter of complaint (not an appeal, you have committed no 'crime'!). But obviously do not write to the PPC, just send it to the CEO of MORRISONS at the Head Office (Google it). Seriously complain about the ridiculous idea of allowing their customers to be harassed by a company using a scam practice, much akin to a protection racket in their car parks. These complaints are best sent in a month or so by the registered keeper, just after he has collected some scary debt collector letters (enclose copies and ask Morrisons to explain why they think it is good customer service to threaten an OAP, the registered keeper, who wasn't even driving and cannot possibly owe anything to the scam parking company?).

Finally in your complaint letter, if it were me I would demand to know why on earth a company with a good reputation like Morrisions didn't just Google private parking companies to find out the truth about the 'industry' before jumping into an arrangment with one of them all over the UK which is getting bad exposure on the internet every single day? Point out that they are mistaken if they might think that a parking company just being a member of the BPA might give them any air of legitimacy or authority to fine anyone - it does not - and Morrisons really need to put their customers' needs first.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Send an email to this email address explaining what has happened and say that you are disgusted by the way you were treated in a Morrisons car park.

    joanne.vesely@morrisonsplc.co.uk

If we all start complaining to the company that employs these scammers then something might be done about it.

Do not contact the scamming parking company direct.

Mention Harassment and shopping at a local competitor from now on.

Your vehicle being parked slightly over the white line cost the landowner zero in damages, not a penny, nothing. Just ignoring the PPC

Note: Morrison's do NOT have a good reputation, nor does any major corporation. They have a few simple customers who swear by them (as all businesses do) but that's where it ends. In real terms, they are just about all disreputable.

Can the OP please name the private parking company? Sorry if I've missed it. It's just that I may be able to know - from experience - exactly what the follow-up procedure for ignoring tickets is. Don't worry, it definitely won't be a victory for the PPC that I can guarantee. The stores with which I am familiar are all managed by CP Plus, with them they simply stick a ticket to the window and if you ignore it, nothing. CP Plus do also operate their "ANPR" joke from motorway services and again, ignoring it generates one reminder but nothing from third parties, they just fade.

Was it CP Plus? If not, who?
