sorry man but the forums are free so anyone can post,

im not a troll at all, im just intrigued as to what was wrong with my idea of buyng an alternative,

Well... it is so obvious that it hardly needs to be suggested, unless you think the OP and I are about ten years old.... then you follow it up with a suggestion (which is most irritating) that I might thank you for it! Of course, I realise that that's your signature, but if want to keep that as a signature, you probably ought to make suggestions that are worth thanking you for!

Got anything a bit more original? It can't be "set up a facebook page" cos I've just done it...

DCFC79 - this was the only SOFTER butter commonly available - the only others are Loseley (I've only ever seen that in Waitrose) or the one from M&S. Not really practical to divert to either of these for my one tub of butter a week...and they will be dearer.

And I agree with Bwims - it was quite sneaky to package it in a way that looked quite like the old product - hoping people would grab it without noticing I guess.

This is my first attempt at a facebook page (nothing's got me so riled up since ClimateGate) so it's not brilliant. But if enough people like it, maybe it will have an effect.

In case anyone's wondering, everyone's arguing about this

    http://www.kerrygold.co.uk/index.php?p=kerrygold-softer-butter,33

which according to mySupermarket is still available

    http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-price-comparison/Butter_Margarine_And_Spreads/Kerrygold_Softer_Butter_500g.html

It's just that mySupermarket is wrong as neither ASDA nor Tesco have Kerrygold Softer Butter for sale online just the spreadable so it's confused them as well.

As far as I can see the available alternatives are:-

    President Unsalted Softer Butter (Ocado)
Loseley Summer Meadow naturally softer butter (Waitrose)

It is wrong. I rang Kerrygold today and they confirmed that they have stopped selling it but not why. I may ring Ireland at some point.

    Moonrakers,

As a newbie, I have to ask... out of your 8022 posts, how many of these were arguing trifling, nit-picking points of semantics?

If a new product is introduced into the market in an entirely sneaky fashion, (ie, stick the word "new" on it and hope that no one notices), AND it looks near identical to the previous, withdrawn product, it is reasonable, prima facie, to assume that the original product had been changed.

If you get a big kick out of pointing out that "no, they have withdrawn one and replaced it with another that looks just like it, but oh by the way, didn't you read the word change, you silly goose?" , well, that makes you just one up from a troll in my book.

If all your 20 posts are as factually accurate as this one is let's hope there aren't too many more from the same source.

    1. You can't even get my name right.
    2. The new product was not introduced in a "sneaky" fashion.
    a. It has been available for a long time.
    b. It is clearly labelled - as the Law requires.
    c. How can putting the word "new" on it be part of a "sneaky" fashion ?
    4. Just about ALL branded manufacturers use the same colour scheme on their products - why don't you complain to Lurpak for using blue and silver on all their products - and all the supermarkets for copying this colour scheme on their "copycat" versions.
    3. I did say:

I don't wish to be super pedantic here,

If you wish to launch into a factually incorrect tirade, throwing in a bit of Latin, to make it sound good please carry on and continue to make yourself look ..................

    1. Yes, I noticed that after I hit reply. Pedant score +1
    2. My opinion is as good as yours
    a. not my perception
    b. how many people examine the labelling?
    c. because "new" implies "the same but better" not "completely different"
    4. Fallacious sweeping generalisation. The product which is clearly intended to replace the superior product looks damn near identical. They don't go to any great lengths to distinguish it. They call it Irish butter with olive oil, but it's only 75% butter.
    3. Should it really come after 4? tsk tsk. And if you don't know what prima facie is, you aren't the pedant I thought you were.

Cattiness about who is trying to "look good" is rich coming from someone who wants to turn a discussion about Kerrygold removing a quality product into a nit-picking discussion on semantics. The fact that you had to poke your nose in with your 8000 odd comments implies you have nothing better to do with your day. Get a life!

I think the point is that for someone keen to throw about accusations of trolling left, right, and centre, he sure is behaving like a troll himself.
