If you want a good ISP then don't go with BT.
I recommend Nildram or Zen.
Try http://www.adslguide.org.uk for list of various ISP's
Also BT will be imtroduced a cap of 30gb, okay it depends on how much you use the internet/p2p/VoIP or even shared connection (more than 1 pc using the adsl) etc. But with 2mb it doesn't take too long. I much rather have no restrictions on usage than caps on bandwidt, thats my personel choice.
I am with Zen 1MB although I pay a little more I dont get any caps, and I have had a rock solid connection since joining in November. I use to be with Plusnet but left because I hate caps.

BT offers a number of deals, I use BT becuase they offer good service, and I know if my connection goes down it will get fixed ASAP. I've tried a number of ISP's over the years that offer lower prices but when something goes wrong no one wants to know.
I use the BT business package and that has no restrictions. I suppose its down to personal prefference, but BT are very good. I've tried loads of other ISP's in the past but always come back to BT.0 -
Hi - I have been with a few ISPs over the years, and have been with BT for 4 or 5 years now. There may well be cheaper and better ISPs, but in BTs defence I have connected 1st time everytime both with dial-up and the last couple of years with broadband, and have rarely had a dropped line. Their customer service is also very helpful. The 2meg connection was a free upgrade and it is excellent. I am with BT Yahoo and it also has a pretty good spam blocker.0

Well we have to agree to disagree about the wonderful BT. The reason why many of these caps are in place with ISP's is good old BT wholesale introduced Capacity Based Charging. We get ripped off in this country because of BT.
There are plenty of other providers out there, some better than others. I rarely experince problems with other ISP's because I rather pay that bit more, I normally only leave if I can find as good a service but cheaper. The freeserves, and Tiscalis of this world are the lower end of the market and whilst offer a cheap product they often dont want to know when things go wrong.
I too have used many ISP and been on broadband for over 4 years. BT was my first broadband provider and often got problems. I Didn't experince this will the 3 other providers I have used since, so it wasnt down to my hardware. This was before BT broadband was so popular, and there adverts would have you believe that they are the only ISP.

In the recently announced speed upgrades BT increased peoples lines from 1Mb to 2Mb but cut their quota from 30Gb to 15Gb / month....
Don't like BT, their service isn't that good and they do actually have higher downtimes than other services. (Unless BT knock all ADSL connections down in an area which isn't unkown).
Personally, I use Pipex £23.44 / month for 1Mb now with no caps (except newsgroups =10 Gb / month). Very reliable, which is vital for me as I work from home and the internet is essential for my work. Some grumbling from existing users about how their handling the pricing / speed changes. Won't affect new users. Don't ask me what their tech support is like as I've never needed to use it.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

You lucky people who have a choice! I live in Hull and that means you can only get Broadband with Karoo! It is £18.99/month for 250kb/s and unlimited download. Sign up for 12 months and one month is free. You also have to pay for the modem.0

just wanted to let you know my bitter experience with BT Broadband. i requested to join them by providing them with migration access code from Pipex. Was kept waiting in queue for about 20+ minutes after which my order was taken. The person taking my order was quick in telling me that my contract will be min 12 months and if I back off any time during the contract, I will be charged the "activiation" fee. I wasn't told how much that would be. My start date was confirmed as 4th March - until which time I received no communication at all from BT - no user name - no server details - nothing at all.
Upon calling them again and waiting in the queue, I was bluntly advised to wait until something arrives in the post. Waited a few more days - nothing arrived yet. Ultimately, decided to have a go at them and spoke to someone at the complaints section. The receiptionist took all my details and advised me that there would be a 7 day time during which my complaint will be dealt with. Some efficiency eh!
I allowed 2 more days, after which I again spoke to the same person and only after continued perseverance, I was offered a "free router". I spoke to their tech support people a couple of times as well - and each time I was told that I will need to wait until I receive my account details. The truth is - there is nothing to be received - all you need is a user name - any kid these days will be able to configure a modem and create account if no other details required.
I finally received the details I needed from a tech support advisor and now have a "live" account with BT broadband.
About their 2Mb connection, it is not going to happen until sometime between March and May - a lot of people hoping to join them because of the 2Mb advertising will end up waiting until their local exchange is upgraded. Till then, they will be stuck with the 512 connection or the fastest their exchange is able to provide.A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.
