    Great.
Pick any month of your choosing this year as long as it was outside a period where the tariffs changed.
State exactly how many kWh you used in that month and the exact amount you paid for that use.
Tell me what the exact name/code was for the tariff during that month so anyone who cares can verify the numbers.
Give me the postcode so it is incontrovertible which rates apply from various companies.

This way it will be as transparent as possible for the majority of MSE readers.
Be so kind to list the aforementioned all in one post to make it easily accessible to all who care to compare for themselves to see if my calculations are correct. At the end of the day, my calculations/verifications won't be worth squat without readers being able to check for themselves.

What are you on about?

You asked for any example from within the last decade. I have provided you with 2 such examples, one from April 2009 and one from today.

I have provided you with the costs per unit, the total annual costs, the names of the suppliers and tariffs, the usage assumptions and the supply regions.

Every advice is to consider total annual cost, not the usage in any particular month as that will vary enormously and it takes 4-6 weeks to change supplier anyway. You are out with the fairies if you wish to consider the cost for a praticular month only.

You have all the information required to verify my facts.

You clearly have not bothered to even attempt to verify or disprove the facts given, but prefer to post in a style intended to incite a negative response. There's an easy solution to all this.

    Making things transparent and verifiable.

But neither was easily or incontrovertibly verifiable. Not much point in claiming something that is hard to disprove.

I didn't ask for regions or assumptions, but for a post code and real numbers.

Of course comparing an annual bill would be best if you wanted to change, however, we weren't talking about finding the best deal, but whether or not you could come up with a verifiable, real life example where an average/medium size user would be considerable worse off on a tariff that had the lowest kWh price for that area compared to a complicated discount scheme.
The reason I ask for one month, is that it is easy to verify as compared to a whole year with at least two rate changes, and all the calculations needed to work it out. Not to mention the fact that without exact readings at the exact point of rate change, it will be actually impossible to come to and exact number.
No one can argue that if 1x is cheaper than 1y, 12x will be cheaper than 12y.

In the interest of transparency, I asked you to post the details as per request, and all together.
It does look like you're not up to the challenge of hard numbers that can be checked.

My offer of investigating lowest kWh price vs lowest monthly bill still stands, and is open to anyone who cares to supply the information in the format that I posted above.

Comparing a single quarterly bill, comparing unit rates alone and not including discounts etc?

Have you ever considered being an independant distributer for Utility Warehouse?

    What a joke
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

For such items as fixed or percentage discount over fixed x amount ( whether in total kWh or £££ ) as a single factor, the monthly amounts can simply be multiplied by 12.

Feel free to include details of such discounts ( or provide link to supplier's description ) in a chosen example, as long as the rest complies with the requested format.

Take up the issue with the Consumer Focus Confidence Code Manager. She is highly competent in this area and has responsibilty for the accreditation of the various Comparison sites.

I am sure she will welcome your input and style of issuing instructions to people who don't agree with your view.

Now that Premier and Chris aren't biting any more, she may be your last hope of progress in proving the unproveable......;)

At least the suppliers can be happy that their tactics worked in your case.
I can only see one reason for all the complicated schemes: confusing people.

Don't forget the fabulous 18.6% online discount of FixOnline 8.

Along with 2% DF and 6% DD discount and 5% VAT, it was easy to scratch your head and say, how come the unit rate is much higher, but it's cheaper?
