The same as any other combination of numbers.
Im going to keep my probability theorist hat off and keep out of this discussion as I know this is a subject as irrational as premium bonds.0 -
My family seem to be quite lucky when it comes to the lotto. One of my aunts got 5 + the bonus a few years ago, I've had a few tenners + 4 numbers once. However, my father who play it religiously, never wins anything.
It's all about luck!0 -
It is just pure luck whether it is lottery or premium bond. I've had quite a few premium bonds over the last 4 years. I have never won anything. I play the lottery sometimes (not regularly). About 3 years ago, I chosed 6 numbers to play the lotto on a saturday. I wrote them on a lotto slip & then I said what the hell 'I never win anyway'. So I reduced the numbers to 4 & played a 'pick 4' in a lotto hotpick. Guess what all the 6 numbers came up & I won £7000. If I had played all the 6 numbers that day I would have been a Millionaire by now. I never regret it. I take it I will never be a millionaire but the £7000 was quite handy. Few months later I got 4 numbers in the thunderball & won £100. If I had got five it would have been £5000...Oh well.0

The best way to play the lottery is on subscription.
Just pick one line of numbers, play every Saturday & Wednesday. Pay monthly by direct debit, then you never need to worry about forgetting to put your numbers on. Plus you don't spend every Saturday night in a massive queue in your local shop, plus you don't take a tenner out of the ATM just to put £2 on the lottery then waste the other £8.00 each week.
If you win on subscription the money is credited direct to your bank account for amounts below £10K.0 -

Unless you subscribe to the theory that some balls are heavier than other, however marginally. Or that some balls are slippier and therefore fall to the bottom of the machine faster than the others.tom188 wrote:Im going to keep my probability theorist hat off and keep out of this discussion as I know this is a subject as irrational as premium bonds.
No-one is more surprised than me that this thread is still active.

I have a spreadsheet that allows you to enter 6 numbers and the s/s shows you how often you would have won since the draws began.
It also shows how often a particular number has been drawn.
Why? I have no idea but pm me if you would like a copy. It's excel based.

There's more than one set of balls though.0 -

Yes, but if we assume all the balls are identical except that the black ink or whatever makes the ball either heavier or more aerodynamic...
I really am mad.

Off topic but i was thinking about the lottery draw, how is it not the same everytime, if the whole process is automatic, ball release, ball selection, surely the same conditions exist every time, how do they make it different, do the blade things, change speed, or the ball selector do it at different times0
