can anyone suggest a few insurance companies I can try for car insurance for an 82yr old man with a clean licence. It seems most of them have a cut off point at 80yrs. Any help you could give would be great. 0 -

Egg have now renewed this offer with £30 cashback. Details here.
If you want to tweak this offer a little more and you haven't already got an Egg Card, you can get an extra £5 cashback for a successful application. Details here.0 -
I got a flyer through the door from Lloyds TSB Insurance on home insurance, stating "we'll cut your bill or pay you up to £100" - call 0800 731 3689 quoting DH835 and receive a free Parker pen with your quote (subject to eligibility) plus £30 worth of M&S vouchers when you take out buildings and contents cover (£15 worth if you take out one policy)."
I phoned and asked for buildings insurance, and although the initial quote of £175.02 was a lot higher than my £129.48 plus £13.65 legal help quoted by Churchill, Lloyds TSB are willing to give me a £15 cheque rather than the M&S vouchers, plus a further cheque for £45.53, bringing my total down to £114.49. No legal help was mentioned by Lloyds TSB though.
I do know from past experience with Churchill that if you go back to them and quibble, stating that you can get cheaper insurance from another source, they will look at their prices - it usually means they will knock off the cost of the legal help but still give it to you free of charge.
At the end of the day you go with what you think is best for you and your circumstances, but it amazes me how different these quotes can be just to get your business - especially on car insurance.0 -
I also switched to RIAS for Car Insurance. Now I am having a problem with them. They sent out the policy with the wrong date - 12 days prior to my existing policy's expiry date. Now they are refusing to rectify this. As it is a matter of principle I intend to pursue this until I get a resolution.

When getting a quote for home insurance it's worth asking for it in the name of the oldest person if a couple. There is a mere 5yrs between me and my partner but the insurance is now all with her as first named on the policy as it saves quiet a bit. Daft really when it's the same people in the same house and the same contents insured, but if it saves me money then I don't mind leaving opening the bills to my other half, the money still comes out of the same joint account. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

This may not help in your selection but is true, what may be the lowest now might not be the lowest next year, so its a never ending game of phoning around, the moneymarkets/confused.com are OK but they do not cover some of the cheapest around so its back to phoning around. Start with the 0800 numbers make a list its handy for next years trawl around, take a note of the stupid high ones and cross of list, leave yourself about a dozen to pick from and always come in with the "I have a cheaper quote" it may bring the next quote down.
