IMO, as an adult, he should've dealt with the situation himself.

Asking for a small loan from your folks is one thing. But asking (or even accepting when it's been offered) for 30K, when they've already given you 10K to get set up to start with is a bit much.

    But, that's just my opinion.

well seeing as we don't know what happened or why it happened we can only guess and if he had a mortgage he might not be able to just nip out and get a loan for an additional 30k.

    I know.

IMO though, if he didn't have the 30k, and wasn't able to find the money himself (I wouldn't advise a loan either), then he should have sold the house, split the equity, and started again.

It sucks, but that's life and it's what most people do. After all, his Mum won't be around forever to assist with stuff like that.

Huh? No one has torn into the son and OP. We are just asking why.

Perhaps the OP and son have both happily agreed these amounts as gifts, or loans and perhaps they've even been paid back, or maybe it's something more different.

She doesn't even have to answer. They're only questions.

    Hahahahaha, maybe.

But he could always rent whilst looking for another property. He'd have 30k equity himself as a deposit, and (presumably) a steady income to keep him going.

I dont see what the problem with a parent giving their child large amounts of money if thats what they want to do.

We wouldnt be buying a house if it wasnt for my dad helping us out.

better to give him the money now (or then) rather than wait until you're dead, i hope when my little one is older to be able to help him out rather than just leave it all in my will.
