Sorry I didn't mean to cause a debate over benefits but trust me, If I was lucky enought to have reliable family members living close to me, that could look after my children whilst I went to work, I would be out of the door like a shot and would probably work 2-3 jobs just so I could pay my debt off.
I appreciate that and I never meant to hijack the thread I just want to understand the system. Sorry if you thought I was getting at you - i was not - you must find it very difficultBuilding a new life after bankruptcy0 -
Why is it wrong? this has always been the case, and has been discussed in depth many many times.
You might have discussed it but I have not. I am fairly new and I have not seen every single thread. I only wanted to ask the question but replies like this just scare people off. I for one will no longer post as I feel people are to quick to jump down peoples throats (which I was not doing) All I did was ask why a surplus should be excluded (if there was indeed one). Surely income is income no matter where it comes from.
I did not mean to hijack the post I was just following on a cenversationBuilding a new life after bankruptcy0 -
i think its because its not counted as surplus. because the goverment set what they think people can live on so no ones allowed to touch it.bsc 347:j0

Why isnt it wrong?????
Why should someone whos money is handed out to them not have money taken regardless of what surpluss they have? yet someone who has worked for there money have it taken even if its just £30????
Surplus is surplus wether benefits or earned!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to the OP for the hijack and no offence intended to them, but the system sucks.0 -
Tickled pink claims 1742.49 a month in benefits (I stress I am not having a go at her, I am sure she needs it).
However, I know someone who is a single mum with 3 kids. Her parents look after them whilst she works 3 jobs and she brings home £1650 a month and she has an IPA of £30 per month.
Now she chooses to work but it just seems wrong that she gets an IPA and someone bringing in more than that doesn't.
I stress again that I am not having a go at Tickled Pink I just do not understand the system.
MT - is your friend claiming Tax Credits on top of her £1650? And the child benefit? Make sure she checks out entitledto.org which will tell her if she's entitled to any other benefits.0 -
Ok guys if we keep discussing this the MSE team will move this thread to the Discussion Time board. If you want a dicussion of the rights and wrongs then go and discuss there, lets leave Pinks thread alone eh!!"If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"

It's been mentioned a few times in the thread but the Co-Op Cashminder account is great. I took this out shortly after my bankruptcy, it's only a basic account (i.e no O/D frills etc) however you recieve a visa debit card and online access. Additionally the Co-Op were really friendly and helpful, so i would thoroughly recommend it!April 14 Deposit Target: [STRIKE]£31,660[/STRIKE] £35038/67,620 -[STRIKE] 46.82%[/STRIKE] 51.81% (£15582 to save + £17k from car sale)

Thanks Janineh I would go for the co-op cashminder account, but I have a joint credit card and overdraft debt (well was my ex husbands that he had before we met, then he put me on as a named user etc) so I was told as that debt falls to him once I go bankrupt its probably best I go with a bank I don't have debt with. If that makes sense? x0
