Faulty brand new cooker from Currys, wish to reject.

We took delivery of a Kenwood dual fuel range cooker on Sunday. Although it was tested by the installers, when I tried to cook some pizzas that evening, the main fan oven would not heat up, despite trying different settings. I saw most of the testing, i.e the operation of the gas rings & the gas safety device, & was aware that I could smell the heat of heat coming, I thought from both ovens, although I did not actually feel for the heat coming from each.
In the store, we went to buy a Leisure cooker, but were seduced by the look of the Kenwood, along with the price & the well known brand name. I have since discovered that Currys have bought the brand name & that it is actually a Currys own brand. We were not made aware of this. I asked the salesman to show me some reviews of the cooker, which he did, & they seemed fine. I have since looked for reviews myself, & they are mixed, with some stating that failure of the element in the ovens was not uncommon, but not to work even on day one has ruined any confidence that I may have had. my wife phoned up & was told that an engineer will come out on 10th August, which is not very helpful. Having discussed this we would now like to reject the cooker as not fit for purpose, & buy a Leisure range instead. The problem is that it has been bought on finance, with a 10% downpayment, & the alternative has gone up in price considerably (only in Currys though) it is still available at a similar price to before from other retailers. My question is; where do we stand legally, could we demand a refund of the deposit, cancel the finance agreement & then purchase the cooker we want from elsewhere, if Currys are not helpful? I would be grateful for any replies, as we intend going to the branch we purchased the cooker from tomorrow morning.

If you're within 21 days, you can get a refund. The credit agreements can be cancelled within (I think, check the paperwork) 14 days.
One tip, to save yourself a lot of hassle, before you go in tomorrow, grab the serial number from the cooker (should be either on the manual, or on a plate just inside the oven door), they'll not be able to do much without that.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Thanks for the tip esqui, will do that, we ordered the cooker on July 17th, it was delivered on 31st July, so we are outside the 14 days.0

Double check the paper work then. They may be able to completely refund it in store, I'm not quite sure how it works after that time.
It should be on a sheet with "Important information" and stuff written in surprisingly large font. I'd check mine, but the laws surrounding them have changed since mine was done, so yours will probably be different.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. It seems wrong that the credit agreement runs from14 days from inception, when the problem only came to light after delivery, which was 14 days later, are we then obliged to pay for a non existent cooker (should we get a refund) or to purchase form Currys, even though their price on the cooker we want is no longer competitive?0

Esqui, if I remember correctly, the finance agreement has the be canceled in the store it was purchased from (it can be done from a different store but its very hard work) and it can be canceled and any payments taken refunded until the end of the finance agreement.0

Take online reviews with a pinch of salt.
Looking for an iron a while back, Argos website with its reviews seemed an obvious choice.
Narrowed it down a several that fitted our needs, Read reviews.
Heats up really fast and is very light, Yet another review says the iron is very heavy and take ages to heat up.
Eventually bought it from sainsbury's because it was on sale for half price bargain.
And it's reasonably light even with a full tank of water and heats up very quickly compared to our old one.
Lets see if it lasts 20 years like the old one. Hope its better than the kettles, We need to return another one now this ones started whilstling.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
CoolHotCold, I plan to return to the store that I purchased the cooker from, & would wish to cancel the credit agreement if we cannot get the cooker we want at the price it was when we purchased the Kenwood. Does this mean that the agreement can still be cancelled even though it is now 17 days since the it was signed?0

Hiya dvdocon i work in a currys store providing that the cooker is faulty you will get either a full refund on the credit aggreement or an exchange have you looked to see if the leisure cooker is at a better price anywhere else and it could be price matched plus 10% of the difference. good luck really hope you get it sorted.0
