I want to get my son a Santander 11 to 15 youth plus account(I'm already with santander). Part of the site says he'll get a cash card for cash machines and and part says a visa debit card. I'm confused if he'll be able to buy thing with his card. Will he?

The 11-15 account will get a cash card, once he turns 16 it'll upgrade automatically to a 16-18 account and he'll get a Visa card should he request it at that point. The cash card is ATM use only. Visa can be used in ATMs, shops and online.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

So what company will that be(Visa,Mastercard etc.) Also is there anyway he can get a debit card below 16 or will he just have to wait?0

With Santander he can't have anything below 16. The Cash Card will just be with Santander, the Debit Card will be Visa branded.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

Ah ok thanks. So is it just a mistake on the website [WWW].santander.co.uk/csgs/Satellite?appID=abbey.internet.Abbeycom&cid=1210610544143&leng=en_GB&pagename=Abbeycom%2FPage%2FWC_ACOM_TemplateB2 where it says Visa debit? Wouldn't let me post link normally so had to bracket the WWW out0

Doesn't let me view that page...
Often the literature lumps the 11-15 and 16-18 accounts into just 'youth accounts' and some youth accounts can have a visa card, so the literature says you can. I'm guessing its because of this.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
"Why choose the 11-15 Current Account?
Great rate – earn 3.00% AER (typical) interest on balances up to £500, as long as you pay some money in each month.
Visa Debit card – for access to your bank account at any time from any Santander or LINK cash machine
Monthly statements – see how much money you have, and how much you’re spending
Online Banking – for 24-hour access to your bank account
Easy access – as well as Online Banking, you can get in touch by telephone or at over 1300 Santander branches'
I quote that. santander.co.uk/csgs/Satellite?appID=abbey.internet.Abbeycom&cid=1210610544143&leng=en_GB&pagename=Abbeycom%2FPage%2FWC_ACOM_TemplateB2#1210610544464 try that now0 -
No, I get 'page unavailable'. No idea why.
Must be a mistake, as it still only says access from LINK machines.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Just do him a favour and open an account with a bank that knows what it's doing. Certainly the summary of the account clearly states that a Visa Debit card is included, but if they can't get the basics right at this stage,I'd take it as an indication of their standards (or lack of them).0

Well, unless they've changed it in the last month...
I only left a month ago, and 11-15 didn't get a debit card then.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0
